Time Ranking of the person of the year.Poll is still running.

When an Israeli raid on an activists' flotilla trying to deliver aid to Gaza caused an international outcry, it was no surprise that the Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Erdogan, had something to say. Turkish aid groups had been part of the flotilla, after all, but his rebuke of Israel was notable because of his refusal to tiptoe diplomatically around the issue. His rhetorical takedown of Israel, which he repeatedly accused of "inhumane state terrorism," was particularly striking given Ankara's history of warm relations with Israel and the U.S. Indeed, Erdogan's outspokenness was just one of many instances in 2010 in which Turkey displayed a newfound willingness to flex its diplomatic muscle. The ultimate bellwether of a shift in geopolitics may have been when Erdogan teamed up with Brazil's Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to offer a second-track fuel swap in the ongoing negotiations over Iran's nuclear program to compete with the U.S.-led sanctions plan. Having encouraged an entrepreneurial boom in Turkey and aligned himself with a nationalist wing of his country that still denies the Armenian genocide, Erdogan has shown that Turkey will no longer shy away from throwing its weight around in the volatile Middle East.

Erdogan didn´t kill anybody like Hitler and Stalin did.
Erdogan, like Hitler, is a sycophant who has incited violence against Jews and other minority groups. Just because he hasn't killed, doesn't mean he's not an evil person. And the point I was trying to make is that Time's Person of the Year isn't a reflection on an individuals character or accomplishments, but rather a reflection on their noteriety. Erdogan has been in the news a lot; I wouldn't say that it has been for mostly good reasons.

The fact that he was brought up to the surface is good news. Light is the best disinfectant.

He is challenging the USA and ultimately the American interests. His rise represents a dark chapter in the current American foreign policy. As he is rising Obama is falling. We will see the effect in 2012.

He accomplished what all the previous PMs of Turkey altogether couldn't accomplished in 80 years...
And what is that?

People used to say the same thing about Turgut Özal, guess some people have a short memory.

And Erdoğan has done more harm for this country than good, this will become apparent in the future.

Which is what?
You can google pre-Erdogan era statistics and compare them with developments made under Erdogan administration. Compare 2002 with 2010 in the following areas.

-Economic developments (GDP, GDP/capita, Inflation, Exports, Currency, FDI)
-Infrastructural developtments (Highways, roads, railways, ports)
-Democratization (Constitutional reforms, Kurdish and other minority rights, decreased influence of military junta)
-Foreign policy (Zero problem with neighbors, EU negogiation process, the influence of Turkey in the region)

German, Irish, Peruvian? I was talking about the things he has done for his country.

PS: He actually tried to reconcile Israel and Arabs but thanks to Israel he failed.

In the future, on the contrary to what you believe, I think Erdogan will be a legend. Now anti-Erdogans are too blind to see his accomplishments while he's still alive but his accomplishments will become more apparent in the future that even your own children would admire what he did for his country.

If you had the guts you would say that he is much more important and better than even Atatürk.

Anyways, you openly don't remember but for example it was Turgut Özal (who I disliked greatly) who liberalised and globalised the Turkish economy, he was he architect of the market economy system in Turkey, while greatly reducing the state role in the economy.

Now tell me one revolutionary thing that Tayyip has done

PS: as you don't live in Turkey you openly are not aware of the fractures forming up in Turkish society, the worst in it's history. Also you do not see how the artificial growth rates are waiting like a time bomb ready to explode in the future.
