Although I'm sure these numbers fluctuate annually, it looks like only these papers are gaining subscribers:

USA Today
The New York Times
New York Post
Minneapolis Star Tribune

It's kind of interesting to know that the Star Trib is the only local paper gaining subscribers.

wow! No Dallas Morning News?
There was controversy last year when reports showed the DMN was fudging its circulation numbers. I think the DMN attributed their numbers to outdated collection techniques. Don't ask me. Anyway, thats probably why the paper isn't listed.

You have to figure that a large number of USA Today "subscribers" are hotels, airlines, and other services that provide complimentary newspapers. I don't think I know anyone who privately subscribes to that particular rag.

^I agree. The Dallas Morning News I consider tobe one of the countries best papers, so that is why I was surprised it wasn't listed. maybe Rastyle is right and they aren't ranking it due to reporting inaccuracies.

Judging by the map, I'm suprised the the DMN has a stronger influence in Austin than the Houston Chronicle. I tend to see more HC boxes and newspaper stacks, but I could be wrong...I don't buy my newspapers anymore. Online or the Daily Texan.

Well, that map is showing info from 1980! I would imagine Travis County wouldn't show up under either newspaper's circulation now. I mean, the Statesman has come along way since then I'm sure.

Cool map. I like the NY Times, Chicago Tribune, and USA Today (pretty pictures, not for the journalism). Crazy that NY has three papers (four if you consider WSJ) in the top 7.
