Name tourist trap in your cities. Area with rip-off prices and focused totally on foreign tourists.

Sydney:

Darling Harbour - Harbourside, Chinese garden, Sydney aquarium, Powerhouse Museum, Maritime Museum & Sydney Wildlife World
The Rocks - plethora of souvenir shops...
Centrepoint Tower
StarCity Casino
Monorail

Melb:

- St Kilda, bit of a lame place but tourists seem to love it
- Harbour Town @ Docklands, with it's own tourist info centre and a tourist tram diverted via it just to bring more shoppers in
- Werribee line trains, visiting train gunzels seem to go nuts over these :eek:hno:
- Lygon Street, it's not where people literally go for Italian food

Why do people even go there?
I imagine it's quite good to live there. Lots of bars, cafes, the beach etc.

But I can't understand why people would visit there. The food isn't that good and the three (?) cake stores are shite.

I drove past there today on my way to Gold's Jewish Emporium actually. St Kilda Junction is such a wasteland.

Melbourne:
Southgate
Disagree!

Southgate is amazing. Consider the building is now over 20 years old, its aged remarkably well, and looks brilliant. It has a great mix of locals and tourists. What about Southgate don't you like?

my Melbourne tourist traps:

-Waterfront City/and ferris wheel (when its operating..)
-Bourke St Mall
-Queen Victoria Markets (produce is FANTASTIC for locals, but half of it that attracts the tourists is absolute junk)
-Grand Prix (i fucking hate it. Give it back to Adelaide. It's a bogan magnet).
-Bridge Road, Richmond (seems to be full of people from Perth, usually during the footy, trying to have a Melbourne shopping experience. "You're doing it all wrong").

Brisbane: Insufficient tourism opportunities to make a list
I've always thought the Brisbane and Auckland version of the bridge climb look pretty tourist trappy.

I've seen people doing the Auckland one and it just looks so underwhelming. They are both impressive bridges in their own right, but its quite expensive and I don't know why any tourist would spend that sort of money when they are most likely going to Sydney also, and can just do it on the original and the best.
