The national ship building/repair facility will be at Azhikkal: Minister
The declared reason is the availability of land in Azhikkal (The dearth of land in Poovar is implied!!)

Please read the full post. the panchayat passed resolution for ship building yard at Poovar. It says: the site had been found suitable for the project because of its geographical features, water depth of 13 metres, and availability of land on the Poovar-Pozhikara coast. Mr. Marceline said the proposed site was uninhabited, obviating the need for displacement of families. Then this:
What the heck ? Land is available in Poovar - if not it should be acquired .
Feels like our city is orphan . No one to bobby for us . Really Sadhno:
ivan athu paranjillenkiley ulllooo athbhutham...... can you expect Ernakulam MLA to vote for vizhinjam?? instead this idiot and the stupid ministry has ensured that it will not comeup either at vizhinjam or azhikkal. ORU VEDIKKU RANDU PAKSHI... at azhikkal, the depth is so low that even small vessels are unable to be docked... when thousands of crores are required at azhikkal even for dredging, do you believe that a ship yard can be built at azhikkal, without deepening the channel?? and by simply avoiding vizhinjam for lack of land, they have ensured it will materialise in kerala itself..... ithu ethu thala thirinjavante budhiyano entho?????

Panchayat passes resolution for ship building yard at Poovar
The Poovar grama panchayat, on Friday, adopted a resolution urging the State government for steps to set up the proposed ship building yard at Poovar.
The panchayat committee unanimously adopted the official resolution, moved by panchayat president Anto Marceline.
Citing studies, Mr. Marceline said the site had been found suitable for the project because of its geographical features, water depth of 13 metres, and availability of land on the Poovar-Pozhikara coast. Mr. Marceline said the proposed site was uninhabited, obviating the need for displacement of families. Road and rail connectivity and proximity to the international shipping lane and the Vizhinjam container transshipment terminal were other advantages.

Poovar ideal for shipyard-cum-port hub: Tharoor
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Shashi Tharoor MP has taken up the issue of the setting up of a new shipyard and major port proposed by the Ministry of Shipping on the west coast of the country, at Poovar, here. In a letter sent to G K Vasan, Minister for Shipping, Tharoor has made a strong case for selecting Poovar for the proposed project, according to a statement from the MP’s office.
Tharoor has enumerated the advantages that Poovar has over other locations in the country. He pointed out that the construction and development of a new shipyard in conjunction with a new port of international standards could put the country in an enviable position and project it as a world maritime power.

The Kerala Government has no say over whether CSL will go ahead with the project at any old location that they propose. CSL is a Central PSU and as it is, is trudging with the evident constraints of it's current location. If it is offered a location with inferior depth and location characteristics w.r.t. Vizhinjam, it will be in its best interest to decline because a politically motivated decision now will lead to the annihilation of the yard in the face of the increasingly stiff competition from private players like Pipavav, ABG and L&T, all of who have significantly superior yards in operation or due to be commissioned shortly.kghari said:ivan athu paranjillenkiley ulllooo athbhutham...... can you expect Ernakulam MLA to vote for vizhinjam?? instead this idiot and the stupid ministry has ensured that it will not comeup either at vizhinjam or azhikkal. In short:
The panchayat resolution underlines two factors: 1. There is ample land. 2. The land is uninhabited. It means there is no need for evacuation. So it can be speedy and without any hassles to the project or the people around. The support of local administration made it more clear.
The minister's statement tried to give another picture: Land is not available in Poovar. So it has to be shifted.
Why is this contradiction?

Shiyard chairman's report regarding the suitable location holds weight than land availability.
Most of their circulation is from Malabar .So putting some extra weight towards a location in Malabar than South Kerala.:cheers:You mean "Veeran" supported government aimed to be maligned by Calicut based "Mathrubhumi"??
April is still a good 4 months away amigo!!
partly correct... not that most of circulation is from malabar, but the daily itself is based in malabar... i have also observed mathrubhumi giving top priority to calicut and malabar based mini projects while turning blinds eye towards big tvm based projects. Most of their circulation is from Malabar .So putting some extra weight towards a location in Malabar than South Kerala.
