Tunis, — A mission to explore investment opportunities in Gabon and Congo will be organised by the end of May/beginning of June 2014, said President of the Middle East& Africa Exporters (MAEX) Association Houyem Ghrairi Trimech.

"Between 20 and 40 Tunisian companies will take part in this mission which is part of a new strategy to capture these two Central African markets," Mrs. Trimech noted at an information day on the investment, import and export potential in the two countries.

She added that the new strategy aims to encourage Tunisian operators to seize opportunities available to capture these promising markets.

Secretary General of MAEX Zied Jouadi said the two countries have the assets needed to attract Tunisian investors.

In addition to oil resources, which account for 50% of the GDP and 80% of the export revenues, Congo offers real opportunities in the sectors of services, finance, ICT, audit, tourism and entertainment (the country has only 60 hotels), he indicated.

Other opportunities are also available in the sectors of woods and environment, food industry, fisheries, agro-pastoral activities, construction and public works and banks.

Tunisia is the 42nd supplier and 48th customer of Congo, said the official, adding that Tunisia exports to Congo paper and cardboard, fats and vegetable oil, salt, sulphur, gypsum, lime and cement, aluminium and articles thereof, furniture and medical and surgical equipment.

Imports include iroko wood, okoume timbers, sapelli wood and tropical timber.

Tunisia is the sixth supplier of Gabon, which is the second African wood producer, the 4th Saharan African oil producer and the world's second producer of manganese, said Vice-President of MAEX Fraj Sassi.

He recalled that Gabon has the second forestry potential in Africa, saying the Gabonese forest covers 22 million hectares, i.e. 85% of the overall area of Gabon.

MAEX is an association bringing together Tunisian exports operating in the sectors of products and services. It seeks to promote multi-form partnership with operators in Africa and the Middle East.
There remains opportunities to do great business with the French speaking north Africans, whom we can learn from considering their relative development.

True that! Congo at this stage must go and attract investments from these countries. Must be proactive and not just seat there and expect them to come.

But it seems like the article is for Congo-Brazza, non?

Not sure why intra Africa trade is so low, mind you intra province trade in DRC is pretty embarrassing in itself. The lack of intra Africa infrastructure kills a lot of potential.

Although the article can equally be talking about DRC, I have to say well spotted kinkiesse as it does sound more like they're talking about ROC. With a low population, if ROC's current ambitions continue then they have a bright future. Next door, they will have a ready made market of 70-80m people.

Intra Trade is not low. It's because we all export Raw resources and then import against the same basic and other products from the Industrial regions of the West and the East Asia industrial countries.

What do we African really produce? nothing industrial.

If Nigeria, DRC, Ethiopia become industrial then you'll see how big Intra trade will floorish.

A Domino effect is what will give Africa it own Industrial revolution likeEurope and the Americas did, the Asia are already having their own industrial revolution thanks to Japan industriastrializing Earlier.

If Nigeria or DRC or Ethiopia or Kenya industrialized today, some other Africans will feel so much pressure to industrialize as well.

The current state of intra trade is high in places like Southern SADC and East Africa Community because they have better infrastructures and have decent functioning leaderships....Unlike ours which is totally dysfunctional. and some countries are still close minded or protective with their Anti business, or communist and socialistic ideas from the cold war era who know little about market or competitive like Ethiopia and Angola, Tanzania, Cameroun and DRC as well etc...
Another factor is bad infrastructures , if this feat is doubled, the trade will double as well.

If DRC fully brings back the Railroad, Riverways (Of course the number of Traffic will have to at least double that of 1970s and 1980s since the country has more than tripled it population size in urban areas), Critical Road Links but should not be hard to revive this critical part of Logistical/Transport infrastructure., bring back the dams to full capacity, bring back few other industries to life (like the Textile in Kisangani, Kalemie, Uvira ) amonst other industries etc... will also bring back the agroculture industry to decent levels willl improve the economy to double or even triple the curent size IMO.

Reviving theRail and the Riverways is the eaasiest of them all IMO,. I mean Congolese do know how to assemble Boats and Barges , Train Engones are very cheap. as well.. No excuse in this field at all. only a normal , common sense is needed here.

I would also like a Luanda-Kinshasa financial/economic axis. We should not ignore Angola. It has one of the largest economy in Africa at the moment.

DrCongo is lucky because it can interconnect all the major economic poles in subsaharan Africa: Kenya, Nigeria, Angola, South Africa

Limitless opportunities for Congo. Just need a more competent leadership to access those opportunities
But Angolan economy is heavily reliant on Oil and Gas export , etc, its not a matter of ignoring it.

Only South Africa has a manufacturing economy in Africa in various sectors.
What is that we're going to import and export to these countries? Almost nothing. We export and import same thing as them to and from same western and Asian industries.

That's why we must heavily invest in manufacturing so that we start exporting to these markets. If not, we're doomed to poverty.

Kinshasa is very good in IT/Informatique and Media, trust me. Also Kasai Oriental and southern Katanga are getting good too. Its huge that Kivu started a bit earlier. Equateur, Bandundu, Pro Oriental are the ones really behind in every department.

If we get a decent leadership that focus on education and entrepreneurship, most of the country will get better at it since the urbanization rate keeps growing fast.

Kinois don't get anything, at all. Don't let the few roads lie to you....there are no water, no electricity or jobs, just like the rest of the country....Kinshasa is very big or too many people without Jobs. Its getting those road infrastructures only because it is the capital city , but there is lots of suffer.

Nothing special is happening in Kin. No jobs, no money floating around, the city is a joke just like the rest of the country.

Ask 99.9% of young Kinois what is their goal for the year and I guarantee you it will be to GTFO.
