A complex of facilities of the new international airport will be built in Ashgabat. As the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a corresponding decree.

The decree authorizes the National Service "Turkmenhowayollary" (Turkmenistan Airlines) to make a contract with Turkish company "Polimeks" for design and construction of a complex of facilities of the new international airport in Ashgabat as well as landscaping of the airport’s adjacent territory. The new airport is expected to service 1600 passengers per hour.

According to the presidential decree, construction work should begin in January 2013, and the new airport should be commissioned in August 2016.

The new international airport will be built in the capital city of Turkmenistan with the view of developing air transport, further increasing the culture of passenger service, increasing the number of flights and safety of air transportation.

Temporary terminal (Ashgabat Airport Terminal 2)

Türkmenbaşy International Airport (IATA: KRW, ICAO: UTAK), also known as Krasnowodsk Airport, is the second largest international airport in Turkmenistan. It is located in city Türkmenbaşy (Krasnowodsk). The airport opened in 1959. In April 2010 a new four-story terminal building was opened with a capacity of 800 passengers per hour.
