Brussels, Belgium – 26 November 2010 – Univar, a leading global chemical distributor, announced today that its legal entity in Morocco is now fully operational. The business trades under the name UnivarMEA from its newly opened office in Casablanca.

Previously Univar serviced this territory from its operations in France, Spain and the UK, distributing to numerous industries in Morocco. Having a local operation will, enable Univar to strengthen existing relationships and improve the company’s and its suppliers’ presence in key markets, including personal care, household and industrial cleaning, pharmaceutical and food ingredients, amongst others. Supplier partners and customers will benefit from the local stocking of products and they will also have the option of being invoiced in local currency.

Jamal Aydoun, a Moroccan national, will head the entity as Country Manager. He has worked at Univar for over 20 years in a wide variety of roles and therefore brings to the team a huge wealth of experience.

The UnivarMEA operation will play a key role in the expansion of Univar’s business in North Africa. It will sell products from key supplier partners such as Dow Corning Europe SA, Innophos, Inc and ExxonMobil, as well as offering products from Univar’s wider European chemical portfolio.

“Morocco is a developing country that has great potential in many of the markets on which we are focused. The country therefore offers significant opportunity for Univar to grow in North Africa,” explains Aydoun.
