The University of North Carolina at Asheville -- smallish liberal arts university known for its meteorology and climatology programs.

Also in or just outside Asheville -- Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, Montreat College, Warren Wilson College, South College, plus satellite campuses of Mars Hill College, Western Carolina University, and the pharmacy school of the University of North Carolina.
