Plans are now underway for a new purpose-built teaching and learning building, which will be adjacent to the £60m new library and look out towards the Green Heart.
Acting as a hub for education, the building will provide a 500 seat lecture theatre and a 250 seat interactive lecture theatre, along with a range of large, medium and small seminar spaces to support breakout teaching. In addition to embracing modern technology it will offer opportunities for a collaborative approach to learning and support student activities and events.
Through extended opening hours, along with a café and social learning space, the teaching and learning block will support the modern learning experience at the University of Birmingham

The three-storey building is set to go up before the city council's planning committee at a meeting on Thursday 29 March.
If approved, the new building north of the new library at the university's main campus will include two lecture theatres and ten seminar rooms and have a total floor space of 55,132 sq ft.
The site is a cleared piece of land which partially includes a site formally occupied by the university's running track.
