I lived in Wien eight years ago (university exchange program) and would love to live there again. I have two graduate degrees, one in Public Administration (Government) and the other in Urban Planning. How easy is it for an American Citizen to get a work visa in Austria? Are non-Austrian citizens allowed to work for the Austrian government or the City of Wien? Any recommenadations on organizations/businesses I should target for employment given my educational experience?

Hi, I think you need a "Aufenthaltsgenehmigung" (permission to stay). You can receive one from an Austrian embassy or consulate; to avoid troubles it is recommended to take care of such a permission before you actually come to Austria. The higher your educational level, the better are your chances for a permission.

Maybe you should ask the Austrian embassy in the US for help or the US embassy in Vienna.
