Fairly enough, nowadays only 50% of Xinjiang’s population is Muslim, so I wouldn’t say it’s part of the Islamic world. Urumqi, the capital, is even less Islamic with more than 80% of the population being Han Chinese. Most of Xinjiang’s Muslims live in rural areas. There are only a few small cities where Muslims are still the majority. I believe Kashgar is the largest majority Muslim city in Xinjiang.Well, It seems more developed and prosperous than the most parts of Islam world!
