Vibrant Gujarat is an annual event taking place in Gandhinagar since 2003. It is the largest international forum in the region.

Gujarat State is one of the world’s pharmaceutical centers housing some of the leading global companies.

Huawei and CEIEC offer high-tech solutions for modernization of tax system in Uzbekistan



STC delegation got acquainted with the history of Golden Tax information platform, which was created by Huawei in cooperation with CEIEC.

Huawei and CEIEC offer technological solutions for modernization of the tax system in Uzbekistan

Delegation of STC held talks with representatives of State Tax Administration of China. Also, members of delegation visited head office of Huawei and discussed issues of cooperation.

Delegation got acquainted with the history of the Golden Tax information platform, which was created by Huawei in cooperation with CEIEC. At the same time, exchange of views on experience of China in implementation of digital technologies in tax system were to take place.

This system was introduced in 1994 in China and is recognized as effective platform for promoting tax compliance.

Representatives of Huawei and CEIEC demonstrated technological solutions based on this platform for use in a project to modernize the tax system in Uzbekistan.

“Software products produced by CEIEC based on Huawei technologies are of great importance. We are pleased to invite representatives of CEIEC to study experience of implementing Golden Tax and discuss issues of applying positive results to practice,” said Chairman of State Tax Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Bekhzod Musaev.

South Korean Export-Import Bank to help modernize medical facilities in Uzbekistan's provinces




On November 8, at the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade was held a meeting with the director of financial operations at the Export-Import Bank of the Republic of Korea, Chang Yong-soo, the ministry said.

Following the meeting, a quadripartite protocol on cooperation was signed as part of a US$ 74 million project to equip with medical equipment a number of provincial medical facilities .

The main goal of the project is the modernization of more than 150 medical institutions in Uzbekistan's provinces, mainly in remote rural areas. It is planned to equip them with high-end equipment, auxiliary materials and tools to improve the quality of health services.

Nagoya is one of the major industrial and scientific centers in Japan, interaction with which opens up broad prospects for implementation of various mutually advantageous programs and projects.

Tokyo hosts Uzbek-Japanese business forum




During the forum, participants had the opportunity to get acquainted in detail with the conditions created in a particular sector for conducting investment and foreign trade activities in Uzbekistan, to discuss common interests and prospects for cooperation and to consider specific project proposals for further joint study.

On December 16, the Uzbek-Japanese business forum was held in Tokyo. The event saw representatives of more than 500 Japanese companies and organizations.

The head of the Uzbek delegation - Minister of investment and foreign trade Sardor Umurzakov, opening the event, stressed that relations between Uzbekistan and Japan acquire a systemic, multifaceted character, and noted that Japan is among the strategic partners in the investment, trade and economic spheres.

Following the forum, a number of bilateral documents on the implementation of joint projects and initiatives were signed.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Shinzo Abe intend to expand strategic partnership



President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe signed a Joint Statement on further deepening and expansion of the strategic partnership.


The two governments exchanged agreements on cooperation in the tax and customs spheres, as well as on the implementation of major energy and infrastructure projects.

In addition, more than ten documents were signed in the economy, industry, tourism, science, innovation, information and communication technologies, labor migration, education and sports, as well as on interregional cooperation.

Uzbek-Korean business incubator set to open in Tashkent



The project aims at developing a system for providing comprehensive assistance to start-up entrepreneurs in implementing their business ideas and projects, taking into account the best Korean experience.



On January 28, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the International Cooperation Agency of the Republic of Korea signed an agreement to launch the project "Promoting the development of the business incubation system in Uzbekistan" with a budget of $5.5 million.

It is planned to attract Korean experts, together with whom work will be organized in the following areas for 4 years:

- creation of an exemplary business incubator in Tashkent, where novice entrepreneurs will be able to get practical assistance in implementing their business ideas from qualified specialists;

- preparation of proposals for improving normative-legal base in the field to support young entrepreneurs, promotion of their activities, and the development of the ecosystem of innovative businesses in Uzbekistan as a whole;

- providing assistance in institutional development to organizations (projects) whose activities are aimed at stimulating the development of youth entrepreneurship;

- professional development of personnel of departments and organizations involved in the development of youth and innovative business by organizing educational internships for them in the Republic of Korea;

- creation of an integrated information system that contains all the information necessary for beginning entrepreneurs on how to create and run a business.

Also today, the Ministry of Emergency Situations will pick up 28 Uzbek citizens on their way back from Iran, including 14 drivers who remained at the closed Iranian-Turkmen border, as well as students, entrepreneurs and individuals.

Alibaba and Jack Ma funds to help Uzbekistan fight coronavirus



The Jack Ma Foundation and the Alibaba Foundation today announced donations of essential medical supplies to seven more countries, namely Azerbaijan, Bhutan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

An India bound flight loaded with the first batch of medical supplies donated by the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation departed Shanghai, China yesterday. The donations arrived at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport last night and were received by the Indian Red Cross Society which would help distribute the supplies across the country.
The supplies are part of the donation pledged to seven more countries announced today by the two foundations, namely Azerbaijan, Bhutan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
Collectively, these seven countries will receive a total of 1.7 million face masks, 165,000 test kits as well as protective clothing and medical equipment such as ventilators and forehead thermometers. With this announcement, the two Foundations have now donated essential medical supplies to 23 Asian countries totalling 7.4 million masks; 485,000 test kits; 100,000 sets of protective clothing along with other medical equipment.
More initiatives and donations may be announced in the coming days and weeks. The Jack Ma Foundation and the Alibaba Foundation also supported the publication of a handbook with key lessons and experience from doctors, health care workers, and hospital administrators at the First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine (FAHZU), who were on the frontline of COVID-19 treatment in China and crucial to slowing its spread.

Uzbekistan and India intend to increase trade volume to $1bn



Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev have agreed to stand together firmly against terrorism. At a virtual summit on Friday the parties said they have similar concerns over separatism, extremism and fundamentalism.

The agenda of the summit included further expansion of political dialogue, strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade-economic, investment, financial-technical, educational, cultural-humanitarian and other spheres.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi sincerely congratulated President Mirziyoyev on the election of Uzbekistan to the UN Human Rights Council.

The sides, among other things, talked about the neccessity of effective transport corridors and logistics infrastructure, restoration of transport facilities.

In the humanitarian sphere, the parties noted their intention to support joint programs in cinematography, national culture and study, restoration of historical heritage sites.

They proposed to establish modern medical centers in the regions of Uzbekistan with the introduction of the traditional system of Indian medicine. The Indian side has supported the activities of the Federation of Uzbekistan Yoga, as well.

In 2019 the trade turnover between the countries comprised around $329mn.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted a benchmark should be set to achieve a trade turnover of $1bn in the coming years.

South Korea remains one of the leading trade partners of Uzbekistan, with bilateral trade in 2020 reaching $2.1bn.

Presidents of South Korea and Uzbekistan have agreed to launch negotiations on a bilateral free trade agreement, as they had a virtual summit on Thursday.

Uzbekistan, meanwhile, is planning to raise up to $400mn worth of South Korean investment for ongoing joint projects. In addition, 55 new projects are being prepared in high-tech industries worth over $3.4bn. Joint projects are set to be implemented in the energy, oil and gas sectors, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and processing industries, among others.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has confirmed his readiness to provide full support for Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The two sides agreed to continue cooperation within the framework of UN and other international structures, as well as within the framework of the Republic of Korea – Central Asia Cooperation Forum to promote programme in the fields of high technologies, and the green and digital economy.

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the same time expressed his unwavering support for Seoul's efforts to resolve the situation on the Korean Peninsula peacefully.

Uzbekistan and South Korea have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of digitalization to promote the "fourth industrial revolution", a $1bn agreement for the implementation of a three-year programme with the EDCF, as well as loan agreements for the construction of a center of chemical technology.

The free trade agreement would be formally named the "Agreement for Sustainable Trade and Economic Partnership".

Foreign ministers of Uzbekistan and Turkey ink Cooperation programme



Preparations for the upcoming joint events, in particular, the second meeting of the Uzbek-Turkish High-level Strategic Cooperation Council was on agenda. The first meeting of the council was held in February 2020 in Ankara.


Foreign ministers of Uzbekistan and Turkey met in Tashkent on March 9. Abdulaziz Kamilov and Mevlut Cavusoglu discussed the development of bilateral relations in the political, trade and economic, transport and communication, investment, tourism, cultural and humanitarian and other spheres.
Preparations for the upcoming joint events, in particular, the second meeting of the Uzbek-Turkish High-level Strategic Cooperation Council was on agenda. The first meeting of the council was held in February 2020 in Ankara.
The foreign ministers exchanged views on strengthening the inter-parliamentary dialogue, improving the legal framework of bilateral relations and increasing interregional cooperation.
The sides expressed mutual interest in enhancing cooperation within the framework of the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States, the Economic Cooperation Organization and other multilateral structures.
Attention was also paid to the expansion of partnership in the scientific and educational sphere, including the opening of a branch of the University of Bahcesehir in Uzbekistan, as well as the establishment of the Ferghana Higher School of Tourism together with the Khoja Bayram Vali University.
The Turkish side was invited to the High-level International Conference " Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity. Challenges and opportunities", international festivals "Sharq taronalari", art of Bakhshi, artisans and other events to be held in Uzbekistan.
Following the meeting, the foreign ministers signed a program of cooperation between the ministries of foreign affairs of Uzbekistan and Turkey for 2022-2023 and a memorandum of understanding in the field of translation services.

International organizations are now expressing their full readiness to back up recently adopted special resolution of the UN General Assembly on declaring the Aral Sea region a zone of environmental innovations and technologies. This was part of the second International Summit "Partnership for Green Growth and Global Goals - 2030", held virtually on Sunday with the participation of the Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The two-day forum was organized in a bid to overcome the consequences of climate change, "green" recovery and ensuring carbon neutrality. President of Uzbekistan shared his vision of the prospects for international cooperation in the field of "green" recovery.
Overcoming the global consequences of the Aral Sea disaster was on the spotlight. It was proposed to continue active joint work in this direction within the framework of the specially created UN Trust Fund, the Global Green Growth Institute, on the platform of the P4G Partnership and other international institutions.
Uzbekistan's commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 under the Paris Agreement was reaffirmed. The widespread introduction of "green" technologies and the implementation of projects in the field of "green" energy in Uzbekistan would allow to increase the share of renewable energy sources by more than 3 times in the next ten years.
Following the event, Uzbekistan expressed its readiness to become member of P4G Partnership.

Japan to give $2.76 million to Uzbekistan for scholarship programs



The governments of Uzbekistan and Japan signed exchange notes on the project "Providing Scholarships for Training"

On July 4, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Uzbekistan Yoshinori Fujiyama and the Minister of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdukodir Toshkulov signed Exchange Notes on the project "Providing Scholarships for Personnel Training" in the amount of about $ 2.76 million.

The amount of the grant for this project is about $2.76 million, within the framework of the gratuitous aid program of the Japanese government. It should be noted here that Japan has been supporting Uzbekistan in the sustainable development of the economy and public administration for many years. One example of Japan's assistance is providing the necessary funding to obtain a master's or doctoral degree in English in Japanese universities for young civil servants, on whom the future of Uzbekistan depends.

It is noteworthy that through the JDS Project, in 2023, young civil servants of the Republic will have the opportunity to study in Japan with a maximum of 18 scholarship holders in the magistracy and 1 scholarship holder in doctoral studies.

It is expected that the implementation of the project will allow young professionals responsible for the future of Uzbekistan to acquire professional knowledge and apply it for the economic and social development of the country, deepen their knowledge of Japan, and promote the development of friendly relations between Japan and Uzbekistan.

It should be noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Uzbekistan. To further develop bilateral relations, the Japanese government will continue to work on developing human resources in Uzbekistan and promoting mutual understanding between the two countries.
