Kuwait Fund to provide Uzbekistan a loan for $23.8 million



The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development will provide a loan in the amount of about US$ 23.8 million to the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The Loan Agreement was signed on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan by Rustam Azimov, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, while the Loan Agreement was signed on behalf of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, by Hamad Al-Omar, Deputy Director-General of the Fund.

Credit funds will go for the financing of Equipping Urological and Hemodialysis Medical Facilities Project in the Republic.

It must be stressed the Project aims to support the health sector and improve the diagnostic and therapeutic medical services, and to contribute to the development of performance and efficiency of health services, to provide better medical services, and to improve the health status of the population, which will have a positive impact on social and economic development indicators in the country.

The Project consists of supplying and installation of necessary modern medical equipment for the Urological and Hemodialysis departments in the health institutions, including training of doctors and technical staff in operating and maintaining these equipment, and also includes the institutional support and necessary consultancy services for preparation of the technical specifications of the required medical equipment and bidding documents and supervision of the Project implementation.

The total cost of the Project is estimated at about 85 billion 685 million soums. The Fund's Loan will cover about 74% of the total cost.

The Loan shall be for a period of 26 years, including a grace period of 4 years, and shall be repaid in 44 semi-annual installments, the first of which will be due after the expiration of the said grace period. The Loan bears an interest rate of 1.5% per annum, in addition to a rate of 0.5% per annum to meet administrative costs and other expenses incurred in the implementation of the Loan Agreement.

UAE, Uzbekistan sign $119m trade deals



UAE and Uzbekistan have signed a deal to jointly invest $119.5 million in projects with leading UAE companies, organisation of mutual visits of business circles and implementation of financial and technical assistance, according to a report.

The deals were agreed upon during the second session of the Uzbek-UAE Intergovernmental Economic Cooperation Commission held recently, said the Times of Central Asia report.

The commission discussed ways of expanding trade and economic relations, increasing bilateral trade, implementation of investment projects to create high-tech production facilities in Uzbekistan, expansion of financial and technical cooperation, and cooperation in the tourism and transport sectors, it said.

The foreign trade companies of the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade signed export contracts with UAE firms for the supply of goods worth more than $73 million.

Uzbekistan exports to the UAE include raw cotton, silk, and agricultural products, and imports mechanical and electrical equipment, coffee, tea, furniture, plastic and rubber products, motor vehicles, clothing, and sports equipment, it added.

Ashgabat agreement comes into force in Uzbekistan



On 23 April 2016, the Agreement on the creation of International transport and transit corridor between the Governments of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Sultanate of Oman, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan (Ashgabat agreement), signed on 25 April 2011 came into force, according to the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan.

The document is aimed at the establishment of a reliable transport corridor for smooth transportation and transit of goods between Asia and ports of the Persian Gulf and Oman sea.

The agreement increases the speed of transportation of goods for the purpose of optimizing transportation costs, as well as the simplification and harmonization of official documents and procedures.

НАК открывает грузовые рейсы в Тегеран
«Узбекистон хаво йуллари» в сотрудничестве с Korean Air начнет выполнять регулярные грузовые рейсы в Иран.



Национальная авиакомпания «Узбекистон хаво йуллари» в сотрудничестве с авиакомпанией Korean Air с 29 апреля начнет выполнять регулярные грузовые рейсы в столицу Ирана Тегеран. Об этом сообщила пресс-служба НАК.

Рейсы в международный аэропорт имени Имама Хомейни будут выполняться на грузовых самолетах узбекистанской авиакомпании Boeing-767-300BCF два раза в неделю — по понедельникам и пятницам.

Открытие рейсов в Тегеран будет важным дополнением к имеющейся грузовой сети международного аэропорта «Навои», из которого в настоящее время выполняются грузовые рейсы во Франкфурт, Вену, Милан, Сарагосу, Тель-Авив, Дубай, Дели, Мумбай и Сеул.

43rd session of Council of Foreign Ministers of Organization of Islamic Cooperation kicks off



The 43rd Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation has begun its work today in Tashkent. The meeting has brought together foreign ministers of 26 member countries.

The session is also attended by Secretary General of the OIC Iyad Amin Madani, President of the Islamic Development Bank Bandar Hazhzhar, director generals of a number of subsidiary and specialized agencies, the special envoys of US, France, Italy, UK, Switzerland under the OIC, as well as representatives of the UN, OSCE, the League of Arab States, the Organization for economic cooperation, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building measures in Asia (CICA), and many other structures.

At the opening ceremony, Interim President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed the participants with a welcoming speech.

The head of state stressed a number of priority areas scheduled during the presidency of our country. Among them: the scientific and technological cooperation, improvement of cooperation mechanisms and expansion of mutually beneficial trade and investment relations, the search for peaceful, political-diplomatic, preventive methods of conflict resolution. In addition, for the study and promotion of the achievements of our great ancestors - the thinkers of the Islamic world, Shavkat Mirziyoyev also put forward the initiative to establish an international research center in Samarkand.

In the course of the Forum it is planned to approve more than a hundred resolutions, in particular, the Tashkent Declaration, which will reflect political, economic, cultural and humanitarian issues on the agenda of the OIC, as well as the priorities of the forthcoming presidency of Uzbekistan in the organization.

From now on, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan will carry out the functions of the Chairperson of the CFM/OIC until the next session in 2017 Chairmanship of Uzbekistan will be held under the slogan "Education - the path to peace and creation."

OIC was established in September 1969 and currently includes 57 countries.

Uzbekistan is a member of the OIC since 1996. In April of this year, Uzbekistan has signed and ratified the Charter of the OIC.

In May 2015 at the Ministerial Council meeting of Member States of the OIC in Kuwait, it was decided to hold the next meeting of foreign ministers in Tashkent and with Uzbekistan's chairmanship in this key institution of the organization.

Uzbekistan and UAE exchange instruments of ratification of international treaties



On 21 November, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates Mohammed Hareba al-Mehairbi.

The meeting saw a ceremony of signing the Protocol on exchange of instruments of ratification of international treaties between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates, which includes the Treaty on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, Extradition Treaty; Agreement on transfer of convicted persons for further punishment.

These agreements enter into force 30 days after the exchange of instruments of ratification, that is 21 December 2016.

Shavkat Mirziyoev expresses condolences to President of UAE



The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoev sent a condolence letter to the President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in connection with the death of the representatives of UAE humanitarian mission in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

The head of state gave the words of sympathy and empathy to the families and friends of the victims.

The Uzbek delegation led by Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov met on February 8 the Speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly, Marzouq Al-Ghanim.

The foreign ministry’s press service says the sides discussed Uzbek-Kuwaiti relations and interparliamentary cooperation.

The National Assembly’s interparliamentary friendship group called ‘Kuwait-Uzbekistan’ was said to strengthen contacts between the two countries.

The sides discussed other cooperation issues.

Kuwait’s Prime Minister Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah received on February 8 the Uzbek delegation led by Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov.

Mr Kamilov relayed President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s salutation and kindest wishes to the Kuwaiti government.

The sides discussed further development of bilateral relations in trade, economy, investment, said the foreign ministry’s press service.

A spur in the Uzbek-Kuwaiti dialogue was said to take the cooperation to a new level of long-term partnership.

The sides exchanged views on other bilateral and international issues.

Oman delegation to visit Uzbekistan



The delegation of the Sultanate of Oman headed by the General Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi arrives in Uzbekistan on 19 April.

During the three-day visit, the delegation of Oman will hold a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov, will take part in the next round of Uzbek-Omani Ministerial consultations.

According to the press service of the Foreign Ministry, it is also scheduled to hold talks in the ministries of higher and secondary special education, and foreign trade.

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with President of the Islamic Development Bank Bandar Hajjar within his visit to Saudi Arabia.

Steady development of relations between Uzbekistan and the IDB, wide-scale cooperation of the parties in developing and implementing projects in social-economic areas was underlined at the meeting. Investments by the Islamic Development Bank in such spheres in Uzbekistan as healthcare, educations, irrigation, power industry, utilities, development of road infrastructure, support of small business are a vivid illustration of this.

The parties exchanged views on prospects of IDB's involvement in organization of an international scientific-research centre at the Imam Bukhari memorial complex in Samarkand, specialised in studying rich cultural heritage of our great ancestors, who added invaluable contribution to the development of humanity.

Other issues of further developing mutually beneficial cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Islamic Development Bank were discussed at the meeting.

Following the negotiations, a Memorandum of understanding between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Islamic Development Bank on establishing Imam Bukhari international scientific-research centre was signed.

The main flow (92%) of investment in the first quarter of 2018 accounted for the United States (28%), China (10%), Great Britain (10%), British Virgin Islands (8%), the United Arab Emirates (6%), Russia (6%), Turkey( 5%), Malaysia (4%), Switzerland (4%), Germany (4%), Netherlands (4%), Singapore (3%) and the Republic of Korea (2%).

At the same time, according to the Central Bank, the balance of direct investments in the country increased from $4 billion to $4.3 billion, while the net growth of direct investment from non – residents reached $200 million.

The total amount of external debt, except loans provided by parent companies, increased from $14.5 billion to $14.7 billion.

At the same time, the amount of private external debt of economic entities dipped by $222 million at the expense of repayment of debt on principal and interest. As a result, the private external debt decreased from $6.3 billion to $6 billion.

The Uzbek-Emirate business forum held yesterday resulted in signing of a number of bilateral documents in the areas of commercial and housing construction, renewable energy and investment cooperation were signed.

The key event of the business forum was the signing of an Agreement between Uzbekistan and the UAE on the establishment of a direct investment fund worth $1 billion.

Uzbekneftegaz expands cooperation with Arab oil companies



A number of documents were signed, including a Strategic Framework Agreement, under which ADNOC will provide strategic advice in relation to Upstream and Downstream operations.

A delegation of JSC Uzbekneftegaz headed by Acting Chairman of the Board Bahrom Ashrafkhanov was on a working visit to Abu Dhabi (UAE) from 11 to 13 November.

Members of the delegation got acquainted with the advanced technologies of data transmission and the capabilities of artificial intelligence used in the production and economic activities of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Panorama Digital Centre.

Negotiations were held with Omar al Suwaidi, Director of ADNOC's Executive Department, and Ahmed al Suwaidi, Executive Director of ADNOC Offshore. A number of documents were signed, including a Strategic Framework Agreement, under which ADNOC will provide strategic advice in relation to Upstream and Downstream operations.

In addition, the Uzbek delegation took part in the international exhibition and conference of the oil industry in Abu Dhabi (ADIPEC 2018).

Saudi Ajlan & Bros to produce clothes in Uzbekistan



Uztextilprom received Ajlan & Bros, represented by Nicholas Gilani, to discuss the Saudi company’s engagement in Uzbekistan’s textile industry.

The company praised the country’s textile industry and its economic reforms.

They then expressed an interest in launching an investment project in Uzbekistan to produce end-product clothes.

They are also scheduled to meet with the Khokimiyats in Jizzakh, Andijan, and Navoi to decide on their location and discuss project parameters.

UAE residents enjoy visa-free regime to Uzbekistan



Thirty-day visa-free regime is introduced in Uzbekistan for residents of the UAE. A corresponding decree was signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on December 28.


The document was signed in order to further strengthen the potential of attracting foreign direct investment to the Republic and to increase the investment attractiveness for entrepreneurs from the UAE.
