The Kazakhstan–Uzbekistan barrier is a 45 km-long (28 miles) border barrier, built by Kazakhstan along part of its border with Uzbekistan. Construction began on October 19, 2006. The 8 ft high barbed wire fence which includes searchlights spans the Saryagash and Maktaaral administrative districts of southern Kazakhstan and is situated along heavily populated towns and cities of eastern Uzbekistan. It is being built to curb drug smuggling across the border.

Before 2002, 96% of the international border between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan had been delimited. In 2001, after mutual agreement, the border line in three disputed areas, (Bagys, Arnasai and Nsan), were left undrawn. In September 2002 Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan fully resolved the route of the 2,440 km border.

Uzbek-Kazakh trade turnover reaches US$1.6bn in Jan-Jun



Trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan made up US$1.6 billion in January-June 2014, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan Boribay Jeksembin said.
According to data of the envoy, the growth of bilateral trade turnover between two states made up 25% year-on-year in the reporting period.

Kazakh diplomat congratulated people of Uzbekistan with Independence Day and wished prosperity and well-being to the country.

Узбекистан и Казахстан завершают демаркацию госграницы



Правительственные делегации Узбекистана и Казахстана 20 – 25 июля 2014 года в г.Алматы на очередном заседании Совместной узбекско-казахстанской демаркационной комиссии подвели итоги совместной работы, проделанной в первом полугодии, и продолжили подготовку проектов заключительных документов демаркации узбекско-казахстанской Государственной границы.

«По результатам переговоров подписан протокол заседания», — говорится в сообщении пресс-службы внешнеполитического ведомства Узбекистана.

Ранее в Алматы с 27 по 31 января 2014 года состоялась встреча рабочих групп правительственных делегаций Узбекистана и Казахстана в Совместной узбекско-казахстанской демаркационной комиссии, в ходе которой стороны обсудили проекты итоговых документов демаркации узбекско-казахстанской госграницы.

В Бухаре 23-27 сентября 2013 года состоялось встреча рабочих групп Совместной узбекско-туркменской межправительственной комиссии по вопросам делимитации и демаркации государственной границы, в ходе которой были рассмотрены вопросы демаркации отдельных участков линии государственной границы между Узбекистаном и Туркменистаном. Делимитация границ Узбекистана с Таджикистаном и Кыргызстаном пока не завершена. В настоящее время полностью делимитированы и демаркированы границы Узбекистана и Афганистана общей протяженностью 137 км.

Uzbekistan Temir Yollari, Kazakhstan Temir Joly hold talks in Tashkent



A delegation of Kazakhstan Temir Joly paid a visit to Tashkent within agreement between railway administrations of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, the press service of Uzbekistan Temir Yollari said.

The Uzbek company added that the sides considered issues of bilateral cooperation. The sides are planning to hold next meeting in Kazakhstan in the second quarter of 2015.

At the same time, the Kazakh company said that the cooperation of two companies in 2013 and 10 months of 2014 were discussed at the meeting.

In ten months of 2014, the cargo transportation between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan was at the level of 15.9 million tonnes as in 2013.

Kazakh company said that it provided discounts at transportation of cotton and fertilizers, transported from Uzbekistan, and wheat and flour, transported from Kazakhstan. The sides agreed to prolong these discounts for 2015. All terms of discount will be the same as in 2014.

At the talks, the sides considered issues related to mutual payments for transportation services, efficient use of trains and wagons, repair of trains and other technical issues.

The talks will help to expand mutual cargo transportation between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, the statement of the Kazakh railway company said.

Trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan reached US$3.061 billion in nine months of 2014.



According to the Uzbek side, the growth rate made up 25.7% compared to the same period of 2013.

Trade turnover between two states rose by 18% year-on-year in 2013 and reached US$3.224 billion.

Uzbekistan exports to Kazakhstan fruits, vegetables, textile goods, transport means, services, fertilizers, construction materials, and others.

In its turn, Uzbekistan imports ferrous and nonferrous metals, fats and oils of animal and vegetable origin from Kazakhstan.

Currently, there are 177 enterprises with Kazakh investments in Uzbekistan.

At the same time, Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade of Uzbekistan accredited three Kazakh firms and companies. About 125 companies with Uzbek capital operate in Kazakhstan.

Узбекистан и Казахстан продлевают безвизовый режим



Узбекистан, Ташкент – АН Podrobno.uz. На этой неделе, Мажилис Казахстана одобрил проект закона «О ратификации протокола о внесении изменения и дополнений в соглашение между правительством Республики Казахстана и правительством Республики Узбекистан об условиях взаимных поездок граждан».

Напомним, что данное соглашение действует с 2000 года и предусматривает безвизовый порядок въезда и пребывания граждан двух стран. Им также утверждены перечни документов для въезда, выезда и пребывания граждан Казахстана и Узбекистана на территории государств.

В новый перечень документов дополнительно включены дипломатические паспорта, паспорта гражданина Узбекистана биометрического образца, удостоверение гражданина Узбекистана, не достигшего 16-летнего возраста, сертификат на возвращение.

В Узбекистане подобный протокол вступил в силу в 2013 году.

Uzbekistan opens up for foreign investment, spurring rivalry with Kazakhstan

Uzbekistan’s recent opening up for foreign investment will spur a “healthy rivalry” in Central Asia, potentially boosting the economy of neighboring Kazakhstan, the International Monetary Fund said.

“Uzbekistan will be a rival to Kazakhstan for investment in a positive way,” Mark Horton, assistant director of the IMF’s Middle East and Central Asia Department, said in an interview in the Kazakh capital Nur-Sultan on Tuesday. The competition “will make both countries work hard to improve transparency, their policy frameworks and business environment.”

Uzbekistan’s recent opening to foreign investment after years of isolation poses a potential threat to Kazakhstan’s position as the economic powerhouse of Central Asia. At 33 million people, Uzbekistan’s population is one and a half times bigger than Kazakhstan’s, but its economy is three times smaller, according to IMF data.

The Uzbek authorities have a strong appetite for policy advice and technical assistance from the IMF and are embarking on very complicated and wide-ranging reforms in a short period of time, Horton said.

Uzbekistan has a bigger market and a diverse and well-developed economy, especially the industrial sector, so it won’t necessarily compete against Kazakhstan in all areas, Horton said. The country should look for ways to benefit from Kazakhstan’s earlier experience in attracting foreign investment and both need to be open to cooperation and mutual investment, he added.

Bilateral trade between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan increased from $1.5 billion in 2016 to $2.5 billion in 2018, according to the Kazakh Economy Ministry.

U.S, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan launch Central Asian investment partnership

Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and the USA will cooperate on the launch of the Central Asian Investment Partnership initiative. A corresponding joint statement was signed on January 7. The governments are planning to attract some $1bn over five years.

In doing so, partners will maximize the success and positive impact of the projects and mobilize additional private investment to the region”, the statement says.

The participants also said they welcome other countries to join this initiative to promote regional economic partnership and prosperity.
