Organized in 1997 by members of foreign business community resident in Uzbekistan, the AmCham Uzbekistan is a voluntary, independent association of businesspersons and entities that unites mostly foreign companies originating from US, Europe and South Pacific Asia.
AmCham’s membership is diverse, representing all types and sizes of businesses and their interests. Currently there are over 100 members of our organization. AmCham is an affiliate and a fully accredited member of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States, and as such, is eligible to use that organization’s informational and other facilities.
The AmCham is managed and directed by a nine members of the Board of Directors, which includes four officers: President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.
The AmCham seeks to support the business interests of our member companies in several ways, including:
Providing information and education on the legal and regulatory issues that affect business activities in Uzbekistan.
Maintaining a dialogue with the Government of Uzbekistan on a wide range of issues that affect the business community and pursuing a cooperative approach to improving the investment climate.
Broadening understanding of how foreign investment activities make important contributions to economic growth, employment, education, and technological development in Uzbekistan.
Communicating with U.S. Government officials regarding the political, economic and business environment in Uzbekistan and the issues affecting the daily operations of foreign investors.
AmCham activities serve to facilitate members’ business operations in Uzbekistan via holding monthly meetings with prominent guest speakers, from Government of Uzbekistan, business or diplomatic community, organizing monthly business gatherings for networking purposes.
In the past 5 years, our guest speakers have included representatives of the Uzbek Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the American Ambassador to Uzbekistan, World Bank, ADB, UNDP, honorable Ambassadors of different countries. On May 3, 2013 Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe and Eurasia, United States Department of Commerce Matthew Murray addressed AmCham community at AmCham monthly meeting.
We also organize events and meetings with visiting delegations including U.S. Government officials, Members of Congress, and think tanks. In recent months, the AmCham Board of Directors has met with the U.S. officials and a delegation from the Department of State. We have hosted receptions and other events in honor of several visiting government and business delegations

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov, who is visiting Berlin as a head of the delegation of Uzbekista, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier on 14 October 2014.
Uzbek and German Foreign Ministers discussed perspective issues of inter-governmental relations in politics, trade-economic, investment and other spheres, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said.
It was noted that positive experience in cooperation at various levels, regular updating of agreement-legal base of relations help to view future of the Uzbek-German dialogue with optimism.
Germany is one of leading trade partners of Uzbekistan in Europe. In 2013, bilateral trade turnover reached US$591 million, which rose by US$100 million compared to 2012.
It was underlined that Uzbekistan and Germany are interested in further expanding trade-economic and investment cooperation, creation of joint production capacities with use of German technologies and preferences, provided by the Uzbek side to foreign investors.
The sides also considered priority directions of expanding contacts in cultural-humanitarian sphere.
The sides exchanged opinion on actual international and regional issues, including settlement of situation in Afghanistan.
After the talks, the ministers signed a protocol on introduction of changes and amendments to agreement between Uzbekistan and Germany on avoiding double taxation in relation to taxes on income and property from 7 September 1999.
On the same day, the delegation of Uzbekistan participated in political consultation with Special Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia Cord Meier-Klodt.
Uzbek British Trade and Industry Council meets in Tashkent
The 21st annual session of the Uzbek-British Trade and Industry Council (UBTIC) took place on 6 November 2014 at the International Business Centre in Tashkent.
HM Ambassador George Edgar led the UK trade delegation of more than twenty companies representing different sectors of British business. The Uzbek Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade and UBTIC Co-Chairman H. E. Mr Elyor Ganiev represented the Government of Uzbekistan and led a delegation of Uzbek companies.
Investment opportunities were outlined in presentations from both sides. During the session the British companies were informed about potential for doing business in diverse fields of Uzbek economy, including oil and gas, chemical and petrochemical industry, mining, automobile, textile, pharmaceutical, production of construction materials and electrical appliance.
The Uzbek side also briefed about the conditions created for foreign investors to implement high-tech projects in the free economic zones in the cities of Navoi and Angren. The parties also discussed specific projects in the field of education, science, tourism, waste management, as well as clean development mechanism and energy saving technologies.
UBTIC was established under a bilateral agreement in 1994. It comes under the umbrella of the British Government’s overseas trade organization, UK Trade & Investment (UKTI). UBTIC is a government-sponsored trade promotion body, which supports and assists UK businesses currently operating in Uzbekistan, or wishing to invest in the country.
UBTIC is the main forum for promoting the development of trade and investment relations between Uzbekistan and the United Kingdom. A key objective of the UBTIC session was to help take business links between our countries to a new level, and to increase awareness of the business opportunities in both our countries.
UBTIC session is held annually, alternatively in Tashkent and London and jointly chaired by representatives of the two sides. The Uzbek Co-Chair is H. E. Mr. Elyor Ganiev, Minister for Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan.
A Delegation of Uzbekistan led by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development of France Laurent Fabius in Paris on 7 November 2014.
At the meeting the sides considered current state and perspective directions of developing of the Uzbek-French relations in political, trade-economic, military-technical and other spheres, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said.
It was said that meetings between Ministries of foreign affairs, fruitful cooperation among representatives of business circles, regular scientific-education and cultural exchanges, contacts at the level of civil society of two states allow gradually to expand all-round relations and jointly form long-term and mutual beneficial agenda based on respecting interests of two states.
The ministers exchanged opinion on some international problems, paying separate attention to changes, taking place in the world, including in Afghanistan and Central Asian region as a whole.
At the end of the negotiations, Minister signed intergovernmental agreements on establishing and conditions of the activities of French Alliance in Tashkent and on cooperation in the sphere of healthcare and medical science.
On the same day, the nine round of bilateral political consultations were held with participation of deputy head of General directorate on political and security affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development of France Pierre Cochard.
On November 11, Islam Karimov received Carolyn Lamm, the Chairwoman of the American-Uzbek Chamber of Commerce (AUCC), who arrived our country to participate in the regular session of AUCC.
The current visit of the delegation of leading US companies to Uzbekistan is a testament for the growing interest of American business to Uzbekistan, the desire for further expand bilateral trade, economic and investment cooperation.
Welcoming the guest, the head of our state noted that for almost more than 20 years, the American-Uzbek Chamber of Commerce promotes the development of bilateral relations between our countries.
Nowadays members of the AUCC are 17 leading US companies, including "Boeing", "General Motors", "GE", "Honeywell", "Rio Tinto", "Zeppelin", "Lockheed Martin", "Merck" "White & Case", "Solar Turbinz", "FMN International".
The mutually beneficial partnership of Uzbekistan with "General Motors" corporation is developing dynamically, under which three major projects in various regions of our country are implementing. These projects include the production of cars in the Andijan region, the release of a new generation of engines in the Tashkent region, the launch of a full cycle of production cars in the Khorezm region.
"Uzbekistan Airways" National Airline successfully operates 15 modern "Boeing" aircrafts, which provides more than half of all traffic.
Carolyn Lamm expressed sincere gratitude to the head of our state for the warm welcome and comprehensive support to the activities of AUCC.
During the meeting the sides discussed prospects of bilateral relations in the field of economy and investment.
At the end of the conversation, President Islam Karimov was awarded with the "Crystal Globe" in recognition of promotion of Uzbekistan as a global business leader.
The President, the minister of foreign affairs of the Swiss Confederation, the current chairman of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Didier Burkhalter arrives in Uzbekistan on November 21, 2014.
The program of the visit include a meeting with the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, which will discuss the status and prospects of Uzbek-Swiss relations, issues of cooperation in the framework of the OSCE, relevant regional and international issues.
Islam Karimov and Didier Burkhalter hold talks in Tashkent
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov held negotiations with the President and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation, chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Didier Burkhalter at Oqsaroy residence on 21 November 2014.
During the meeting, Islam Karimov underlined that Uzbekistan is considering Switzerland and long and reliable partner, which occupies important place in international politics and is commonly recognized international economic and financial center, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan said.
During meeting, the Presidents exchanged opinion on key issues of the Uzbek-Swiss relations, perspective directions of their development in political, trade-economic, investment, cultural-humanitarian and other spheres.
It was underlined that common or close positions of two states on many regional and international issues create favourable conditions for interaction within international organizations such as UN, OSCE and others.
In this context President Didier Burkhalter shared information on preliminary results of Swiss presidency within the OSCE in 2014, which was supported by Uzbekistan.
At the meeting, the sides also considered several actual international issues.
Currently, there are 77 enterprises with Swiss capital in Uzbekistan, including 22 enterprises with 100% Swiss capital. Trade turnover between two states is growing.
US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs to visit Uzbekistan
US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Biswal will pay a visit to Uzbekistan.
The US State Department said that she will travel to India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, and Switzerland from 23 November to 5 December 2014.
The US State Department did not disclose dates of visit of Biswal to Uzbekistan, but it will take place before her visit to Switzerland. In Basel, she will participate in OSCE Ministeral Council, which will take place on 4-5 December. This means that she will visit Uzbekistan in early December 2014.
“She will travel to Tashkent, Uzbekistan for the Annual Bilateral Consultations and discuss with the government of Uzbekistan the full range of bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest,” the US State Department said.
Nisha Desai Biswal assumed the post of the US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia in November 2013. Nisha Desai Biswal replaced at this post Robert Blake.
Tashkent hosts Uzbek-American political consultations
The U.S. delegation led by assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Nesoi Desai Biswal arrives in Tashkent on November 30, 2014, to participate in the next round of Uzbek-American political consultations.
The American delegation will also hold bilateral meetings in the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, and the Ministry of foreign economic relations, investments and trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
A session of Uzbek-Hungarian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation held in Budapest
A session of Uzbek-Hungarian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, which took place for the second time was held in Budapest on November 25.
It was attended by heads of ministries, departments and companies of two countries that responsible for foreign economic relations, financial and banking, economical, trade- industrial, agricultural, pharmaceutical area, food industry, health, tourism and other industries.
During the event, the parties exchanged with information on the current socio-economic development of the two countries, as well as about views on the prospects of mutually beneficial cooperation. In particular, there was noted a mutual interest in increasing bilateral trade, expanding trade-economics, investment, scientific-technological cooperation.
After the session, the sides signed a protocol, which stated the agreement on further strengthening and expansion of multifaceted cooperation in various fields and directions.

Президент Республики Узбекистан Ислам Каримов 2 декабря в резиденции Оксарой принял помощника Государственного секретаря США по делам Южной и Центральной Азии Нишу Десаи Бисвал, прибывшую в Ташкент для участия в пятом раунде двусторонних политических консультаций.
Глава государства, приветствуя гостью, позитивно оценил динамичный характер сотрудничества между нашими странами, основанного на прагматизме и взаимном уважении.
Как было подчеркнуто на встрече, регулярный диалог на различных уровнях позволяет сторонам лучше понимать друг друга, находить конструктивные решения и определять конкретные сферы дальнейшего углубления взаимодействия как в межгосударственном формате, так и между научно-образовательными учреждениями, деятелями культуры и искусства, представителями гражданского общества.
Отдельное внимание в ходе беседы было уделено международной проблематике, прежде всего ситуации в Афганистане, которая оказывает существенное влияние на состояние безопасности в регионе и за его пределами. Помощник Госсекретаря заявила, что США высоко ценят усилия руководителя Узбекистана в вопросах урегулирования афганского кризиса, помощь нашего государства в восстановлении экономики этой страны.
Ниша Десаи Бисвал поблагодарила Ислама Каримова за теплый прием и возможность обменяться мнениями по актуальным двусторонним и региональным вопросам. Американский дипломат от имени руководства своей страны подтвердила приверженность США поступательному развитию многопланового и долгосрочного сотрудничества с Узбекистаном.
Отметим, что ключевыми компонентами узбекско-американских отношений являются торгово-экономическая и инвестиционная сферы, ведется совместная работа с крупными компаниями США по перспективным проектам в высокотехнологичных отраслях экономики.
Важную роль в расширении взаимовыгодных контактов между деловыми кругами двух стран играет Американо-Узбекская торговая палата, которая в ноябре провела очередное заседание в Ташкенте с участием ведущих представителей бизнеса Узбекистана и США.

It is worth to mention that George Krol will head the US diplomatic mission in Kazakhstan. Pamela Leora Spratlen will be Ambassador of the USA to Uzbekistan.

The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said that the US envoy handed over copes of her credentials.
At the meeting, the sides considered current state of relations between Uzbekistan and the USA and implementation of agreements, reached within the fifth round of bilateral political consultations, which was held on 1-2 December 2014 in Tashkent.
The officials also discussed perspective directions of developing interaction in political, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian and other areas. The sides exchanged opinion on some international and regional issues.
Spratlen replaces George Krol at this post, who was appointed to the post of the US Ambassador to Kazakhstan in May 2014.
США намерены поставить Узбекистану 328 бронемашин. Об этом заявил представитель Государственного департамента США по связям со странами Средней Азии Дэниэл Розенблюм. По его словам, оборонительная техника будет передана министерству обороны Узбекистана на безвозмездной основе. Поставки машин начались в декабре 2014 года и будут продолжаться ближайшие несколько месяцев.
По условиям соглашения между странами, Узбекистан должен получить 308 бронеавтомобилей типа MRAP и 20 бронированных ремонтно-эвакуационных машин. По словам Розенблюма, эта техника, поставляемая из состава вооруженных сил США, не использовалась в Афганистане. Согласно договоренности, сами машины поставляются Узбекистану бесплатно, однако Ташкент должен оплатить расходы по транспортировке техники в Среднюю Азию. Другие подробности поставок не уточняются.
В феврале 2013 года Госдепартамент США получил одобрение Конгресса на возобновление поставок вооружения и военной техники странам Средней Азии. Позднее начались переговоры между Вашингтоном и Ташкентом о передаче Узбекистану военной техники, которая высвободится после завершения военной операции в Афганистане и вывода из этой страны американского военного контингента.
В июне 2012 года министерство обороны США объявило о ведении переговоров о поставке избыточной военной техники с властями Киргизии, Таджикистана и Узбекистана. Предполагалось, что этим странам будет передана бронетехника, использовавшаяся международными силами содействия безопасности в Афганистане. Речь шла о бронемашинах, трейлерах, тягачах, заправщиках, грейдерах, бульдозерах и водовозах.

On January 28, 2015, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov received the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Canada John Ronald Kerra, who is leading a delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
On the same day, the round of ministerial political consultations was held, on which the two sides exchanged views on the bilateral agenda, cooperation within international organizations, as well as other relevant topics of mutual interest.
As it was emphasized at the meeting, both countries attach great importance to the regular Uzbek-Canadian dialogue in the political, economic, cultural, humanitarian and other areas, interested in enhancing parliamentary exchanges, expand mutually beneficial direct ties between business circles of Uzbekistan and Canada.
