Note: For those who may not be aware of it: Liechtenstein is a small country in the alps. Here are some maps:

Spent half a day in this mini-country and offshore financial center on an October weekend visiting the town and the art museum. Here are some impressions:

Boxes, the castle of Liechtenstein (still inhabited by the prince bearing the same name), and mountains:

The quaint alpine side of Vaduz:

The banking side of Vaduz:

Two mainstays of this country: banking and the Fürst (prince in English)

Now to the cultural side of Vaduz: the art museum

A stroll through the Städle, Vaduz's main pedestrian avenue:

City Hall:

The state museum of Liechtenstein:

The castle looming over town:

The civic center of Vaduz is to be found at the end of the Städle:

Liechtensteins' parliament:

More photos of the square:

The cathedral:

Suburbia and the alps:

beautiful! I want to retire to a place like this.
Beautiful indeed! And it looks so relaxing! Not everyday we have the opportunity here to see quality images from this city and country. Thanks!

i live a few miles from there :)

the whole town has about 5000 inhabitants

Very good guess :5104 to be precise....according to a glossy brochure of the Amt für Volkswirtschaft (the ministry of the economy) I got for free at the Tourist center. All of Liechtenstein has 35.356 residents.

According to the brochure the country is at most 12,5 km wide and 24,8 km long.
and it has:

- no single mile highway

and

- no classical shopping centre
One of the few favourite countries I would love to live in

Been to Vaduz but for a day
I once went through Liechtenstein while going from Luzern to Innsbruck. Actually we took a small detour on the Swiss highway and the intention was just to tell everybody "hey, I've been to Liechtenstein!" But thing is, Vaduz is ULTRA clean, I could see nothing on the streets, not even leafs or whatsoever. It's quite beautiful as well, although a bit too small for me. I didn't get so further into the Städle, only stayed in the Civic Centre and drove through some streets in the city.

Nice pictures, Liechtenstein deserves some attention here on SSC too.
Nice shots, but why would anyone want to live there? I mean the city isn't even particularly beautiful with all those boxy buildings. There are plenty of places throughout the Alps that are more quaint.
