Vibrant Summit MoUs: 2905 projects commissioned, 1417 in implementation stage

Out of total 8380 MoUs signed in year 2011 Vibrant Gujarat Summit, 2905 projects have been commissioned, while 1417 projects are in implementation stage. Gujarat Industry Minister Shri Saurabh Patel today shared this detail in Gujarat assembly in reply to a question.

He said 18.40% projects announced in Vibrant Gujarat Summit – 2011 are dropped as per the details available on 31 December 2012. Other projects worth Rs 18,27,697 are under process of investment, the minister added.

Patel said, some projects don’t materialize due to various factors like unfavorable market conditions, change in business plan, shortage of finance and global slow down among others.

He said, while small projects take two-three years for execution after MoU, the bigger projects take five-seven years.

Patel said, there’s a provision of follow-up system, and Indext-B has been assigned that task in connection with the MoUs signed during the Vibrant Gujarat summits.

Gujarat summit to get Vibrant with 50 global CEOs and 30 political dignitaries

Chief executive officers (CEOs) of more than 50 global corporates and over 30 political dignitaries, including United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and United States Secretary of State John Kerry, are expected to participate in the seventh edition of the biennial Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit scheduled for January 11 to 13 in state capital Gandhinagar.

Majority of these participants would also remain present at a CEOs’ conclave to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to official sources.

The summit will be represented by at least 250 of Fortune 500 companies.

Osamu Suzuki, chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Stephen Schwarzman, chairman and CEO of Blackstone Group, Sam Walsh, CEO of UK-based Rio Tinto Group and Ajay Banga of Mastercard, are some of the chief executives who have confirmed their participation in the summit.
Besides them, Kazuaki Kama, chairman of Japan’s IHI Corporation, Go Watanabe of Bank of Tokyo, Ahmad Chatila, CEO of Sun Edison, David Schoch, president of Ford Motors in Asia Pacific region, Vittoria Colao, CEO of Vodafone group, David Farr, CEO of Emerson Electric, Jaspal Bindra of Standard Chartered, Mike Yeager, chairman of Cairn India, and Jochi Tsou of China Steel Corporation will also be there.

Secretariat sources claimed that senior officials of World Bank, International Finance Corporation, and other leading financial institutions have also confirmed that would be present at the event.

Officials said premiers of New South Wales and Queensland provinces in Australia, three ministers from Canada, a minister each from Singapore, Australia and UK, are among the 30 political dignitaries will attend the summit.

Unlike the previous six editions of the summit — launched by Narendra Modi when he was chief minister of Gujarat — there would be no claims or announcements of proposed investments in Gujarat.

The event, said senior officials, would be promoted as a global platform for business networking and would not focus on projecting the state as a major investment destination as was the case in its earlier versions.

In fact, Chief Minister Anandiben Patel has herself said Gujarat has already been pitched as an ideal destination and the time has come to demonstrate it as the best place to connect.
