I'm interested to know what road projects in Victoria are scheduled to be opened between now and by Jan 2008?

Am planning a holiday to Melbourne & surrounds and if there's any new roads opening by Jan 2008, then I might leave it until then rather than July.

Thanks in advance :)

Ahh, the Pakenham Bypass, the last stage of the project designed to save well meaning travellers to the Gippsland region from having to pass through the bogan belt of Nazza Wazza, Berwick and Beaconsfield as well as the towns of Latrobe City.

map born, Im pretty sure the pakenham bypass is the only road project that will be completed by 2008. The rest are due by 2009-10.

What's this 'last stage' bit? It only means that VicRoads will find something else to throw money at. How does Yarragon to Trafalgar look, it is still black on the Melways. Or Traralgon, Sale, Bairnsdale...

Does the railway still have level crossings at Kilmany and Bairnsdale?

with yarragon and trafalgar the highway passes through the outskirts of town and it has a parallel service road with 1 or 2 intersections with the highway within the towns. Thats just based on memory from 5 years ago.

Thanks M3_SoutheastMelb & others. I checked the Vicroads site before posting and found pretty much the same answer, I asked the q here as thought that Vicroads site might've had mistakes/not updated etc.

Last time I went east, the highway passes straight through the middle of both Yarragon and Trafalgar - parallels the railway too so if you're lucky you get to see a choo-choo.

Thankfully they are running out of places with which to splurge on freeway building, but like Dataslave says, they'll just think of something anyway. Probably:

Frankstoned Bypass
Trafalgar Bypass
Traralgon Bypass
Shepparton Freeway
Bendigo Bypass
Ballarat Southern Bypass
Torquay Freeway
Eastern Freeway extension
Ring Road Link,
and Extensions of existing freeways

Plus what other rubbish they can think of - it's never ending.

I think "invincible" is just stating the blunt truth about the bogan holes of the City of Casey ;) (minus Endeavour Hills, which is good :p)

Endeavour Hills is the new age Doveton. All the chav's offspring move there or Hampton Park, likewise Nazza Wazza's slummy south-side will probably creep up on the rest of NW and begin gnashing at the heels of Berwick and Beaconsfield in 5-10 years. Think Dandenong 10 years ago - that will be Berwick/Narre Warren in a further 10 years.

In the Age recently: tenders have been called for the rebuilding of the Hume Hwy Donnybrook Road intersection by 2008.

A lot of my family live in Berwick/Beaconsfield, and I can tell you it's enough to make a grown man cry to see what's happening to the place. It's almost unrecognizable from 10 or even 5 years ago! Huge graceless cookie cutter estates blighting what was once two peaceful hamlets in the middle of prime market garden and horse agisting land.

These so called 'aspirational voters' sure have bad aspirations!

I have family on station street in Officer - huge lots and they'll be right in the middle of Nouvelle Sprawlsville - I think they're waiting til its right on the back door step (nearest estate is about 2km west, near Melaluca Lodge on the highway right where the Berwick bypass starts) til they sell and will probably make a killing.

I've never thought of Berwick and Beaconsfield as 'hamlets' though

It's amazing that a station has been built at Pakenham lakeside yet. OH wait, not amazing, just well... typical - freEwayZ first!!1~!

Don't want to give them ideas (although Bracks' advisors are probably reading this and hastily scribbling down the ideas) but you forgot:

Dingley Freewayz0000r!!111onetyone!

Of course, how could I forget the orphan 60s freeway plan routes. Why there's not only Dingley, but also Healesville Fwy, Merri Ck freeway, and the northern section of the Mornington Pen Fwy. Driving freedom to da full exdent ofda lawz11! They'd love 'em too being dead-end freeways, another decade to bitch on about 'missing links'.

I fear the VicRoads boffins already have these ideas and more.
