Something all these have in common is a lot of aerial infrastructure.

There is something inherently "cool" about large bridges and tall buildings regardless of practicality.

There is something inherently "cool" about large bridges and tall buildings regardless of practicality.
Also, most cities' infrastructure is at grade level (or just a few metres above street level), so by showing an over-abundance of criss-crossing aerial infrastructure it makes them look different from what we are used to hence more futuristic.
