I just love how Sydney becomes a giant canvas during the long winter evenings.

As for the AMP Building in blue, it represents what that building (and the AMP) is about.

Vivid has grown to become one of the biggest festivals in Australia attracting over a million people for the 3 weeks it is held every Winter.

Sydney's arts & culture is the best in the country, and our world class harbour just makes it unbeatable.

Oh please, spare us the sydneycentricism :|

Melbourne and Adelaide have the best arts and culture in Oz. In Adelaide we just saw the end of another successful Cabaret Festival, one of the biggest, if not the biggest in the world and soon we will be staging Australia's premier International Guitar Festival...and that's just our winter program. Surely you're aware that Australia's foremost International Arts and Fringe festivals are held every summer in Adelaide and in relation to the Vivid Festival, well that lightshow extravaganza was first staged as a part of the Adeliade Festival (known as Northern Lights) well before you upstarts got captivated and copied it. Run along now...

^^ rofl. what a joke. Nothing screams arts and culture more then Melbourne.
^^:lol::lol::lol:

So they self proclaim, but you can't argue with the evidence that Sydney does it bigger and better, we just don't feel the need to self proclaim titles!!!!

.............

I could go on...

Until an Australian city covers all cultural diversity it can't truly call itself capitol of anything.

Sydney is the Arts & Culture capital of Australia, end of story!

Does what bigger and better honey? sydney does razamatazz all plastic fantastic, ritz and glitz, party-showy...and hey great, we all love a spectacle, BUT that's not culture and certainly not culture better than Melbourne, which yes is 24/7 and the arts and other festivals of Adelaide which are world renowned and cutting edge. That's why Sydney's biggest festivals that you listed are all spectacles really; Mardi Gras, Vivid and NYE.

Bigger is not better. Paris bigger than Avignon but Avignon is renowned for its arts and cultural festival more than Paris even tho Paris is 24/7 culture too, just like Edinburgh in Britain over London, Verona over Rome in Italy and Bayreuth over Berlin in Germany. :cheers:

Australia's major art prize, The Archibald Prize for one is based in Sydney, and where is NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Arts) based again?

Thats just a start for you....honey, to keep it a little more balanced!

A lot of people reflect on Adelaide in a harsh light. It's well known for being a rust bucket, a city more known for its notoriety in crime, kind of like Detroit. I think that's cool - it gives it an edge. I wouldn't like to live there, though. Here's the quote:

"It is a stifled and inbred city whose subculture of degeneracy led to atrocities such as the bodies-in-barrels murders. Cities such as Sydney and Melbourne had areas of similar social deprivation to Adelaide, but these were dynamic and social societies with more outlets for people's frustrations. Adelaide is much more of a claustrophobic, inbred community. There is no vibrant social or commercial life (in the city).

The question is why do the best and brightest in Adelaide never stay around, and why few in that category come here? The answer is clear - no one with ambition thinks that Adelaide is the place for them."
