In India such thing happens even Ahmedabad being better than Gandhinagar is not a capital and also many other examples are Jamshedpur better than Ranchi and Guwahati better than Dispur are not capitals........

Ahmedabad is going to be next metro .
Guwahati is an urban agglomeration and dispur is administrative hub of Assam and both lie in Kamrup district .
Like Bhilai city and durg city are part of same district Durg in chattisgarh.
Kochi city also lies in Ernakulam district .
And we have discussed in ranchi thread why jamshedpur failed to become capital of jharkhand . 15 years passed now Ranchi has overtaken jamshedpur in various infrastructural and urbanisation parameters but jamshedpur is still an industrial leader in whole eastern india may be even ahead of kolkata .

Vizag leading to capital was coz no space... we need to have everything from assembly , raj bhavan administrate offices in central part of town, which was not possible in vizag.. and plus the you have sea at one end and hills at other...

Gandhi Nagar and Ahmedabad are twins and will mixup to be a huge city within 20 years.
Dispur and Guwhati are 7 km from other by road.

Delhi is a big territory & new delhi is its
part .

Raipur city & naya raipur are in raipur district . There is a huge difference in areas of raipur city & raipur district .

Mumbai city & navi mumbai are in mumbai suburban .

Guwahati city & dispur city are in kamrup district .

But bhubneshwar cuttack ahmedabad gandhinagar amravati are all independent districts and their urbanised regions are known as cities by their respective names.

Vijaywada is in Krishna district .

Dont compare ahmedabad with gandhinagar . Ahmedabad will become banglore like city soon . Ahmedabad is almost thrice of gandhinagar .

What are you trying to say?
District isnt a huge boundary line and can be changed as per state wish or need.
I mentioned the Cities already developed and planned cities they want to develop in their surroundings...Can you disagree with it?

You must learn something about Indian administrative system .

A district is a fixed region which comprises of all the administrative blocks or mandals .
Every block has a BDO ( Block development officer ). City is a small region of a district in control of municipal corporation body . City is that part of a district which is developed and urbanised .

In Middle india block is known by another name ----- Tehsil and its administrator tehshildar . In western India it is known as Talukas and their head as Talukdars .

District is a huge region . I agree that cities want to expand and develop thier nearby catchment areas .
But merging two independent districts is not an easy & cool task as you are talking like ahmedabad and gandhinagar . Show me any case of merging two districts in india since independence .




The area of Raipur district is 13000 sq. Km
& area of raipur city may be around 250 sq. km.

Area of Ranchi district is 7500 sq. Km
and area of ranchi city may be 200 sq. km .

Area of pune district is nearly 16000 sq. km
& pune city has an area of about 700 sq. km

Durg district has vast area thats why two indipendent cities Bhilai & and durg city are situated in this .

Ernakulam is also a big district but it has a city inside it known as kocchi .

If you are confused go and collect information regarding all these do search clear your concepts and then reply me .
