Well, Vyborg is one of the most unique places in Russia. Its city center resembles that of many medieval European cities, though it is spoilt a bit with some Soviet era architecture, but not much. Its central square is comparable to those in Riga or Tallinn. I was in Vyborg in 1996, and even then, though many buildings were neglected and dilapidated, it looked very beautiful. Some renovation works and the city would be one of the pearls of Russia.
