Washington DC: Then and Now

I had this great idea of taking old photographs of historic places and landmarks in Washington DC and placing them right next to videos that I shot of these same historic places within the last couple of weeks just to compare what they looked like back then and how they look like today. This video is the reult and I hope it is very entertaining and informative at the same time.

Cool video, Yamota. It's interesting how so many of the buildings are exactly as they were one hundred years ago, but the environment around them has changed so much that they really do look quite different. DC has done a great job preserving its old architecture. I wish more cities could say that.

The Prius stopped in front of Lock Keeper's House is probably the coolest juxtaposition of then and now.
I agree, that Prius in front of the Lock Keeper's house was a complete juxtaposition of old and new. I also agree with you about DC's expertness at preserving it's classic infrastructure, better than most other cities. The only other cities I can think of that possibly even equals DC's dedication to preservation is perhaps Paris and Rome.
If they're serious about "Green", they ought to bring back the sheep from the 1917 White House photo.
nice video, yamota!:eek:kay:

Baltimore should do the same with Druid Hill Park. There was a photo thread in the Photography Forum not too long ago of Brussels, I think, and some of the photos showed deer and other large animals grazing and meandering around the city parks. That would be pretty cool.
that's true, I would like to see what some of the famous baltimore landmarks looked like back in the day, like say the bromo-seltzer tower or memorial stadium

See if you can find this book at your local library. It is sitting on/near my coffee table.
