Full press release:

The first residential component of the Water Street Tampa neighborhood is a rental and for-sale condominium building at the intersection of Water Street and Channelside Drive in downtown Tampa, and serves as the gateway to the Tampa Riverwalk.

Located adjacent to the Amalie Arena, home of the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Tampa Bay History Center, its location is the southern anchor of the neighborhood's spine, Water Street, with its double lines of trees and vibrant retail.

The 21-story rental tower is perpendicular to Channelside Drive, while the 26-story condominium tower is angled towards the water, opening up views of both the waterfront and downtown Tampa.

Designed as sisters, the two towers share a green roof, designed by Miami-based landscape architect, Raymond Jungles, Inc., with shared amenities for residents. A pool for residents will top each tower.

The towers’ façade is defined by its exterior terraces, providing views of both the city's skyline and waterfront while allowing residents to take advantage of the local climate. The exposed concrete structure with metal railings offers warm materiality, while angular shifts in the balcony planning provide dynamic texture. At the podium level, perforated metal screens shield the open-air parking and are subtly angled to catch the light and animate the façade.

Retail, anchored by a full-service grocery store, will line Water Street, Channelside Drive, and the Tampa Riverwalk activating the streetscape and drawing visitors from the surrounding neighborhoods.

Designed by KPF in partnership with award-winning interior design firm Cecconi Simone, the building will break ground in 2018 and open in late 2020

Just so everyone knows, this is the lot just east of the arena and just north of the history center.
LOL, that second rendering (close-up of the balconies) makes it look like it’s much taller than 26 stories. The Grandview building, shown in the background on Harbour Island, is what, 20 stories?

Damn. Hopefully, this gets done. I'd like to see some local places too. Sometimes these projects can feel stale, but this is nice.

Not a big fan of the exposed concrete look. Kinda blah coloring, though I like the design.
Slightly evocative of St Pete's Signature.

I really want to like this, but I just don’t. Looks like something from the 1970’s. Exposed concrete? Harsh. The architects are apparently averse to using even just a little color. Hoping the finished product looks much better, but I’m doubtful.
Needs some color contrast between the concrete and the glass.
I'm a fan - it's going to give the district a very organic feel I think.

Agree, makes it look like they are on the 40th floor. Building looks kind of LA-ish to me

Believe it or not, it’s an accurate rendering. Angles are funny things :)
reminds me of the standard hotel in nyc. i dig it
Of course I like it. The whole Water Street project is going to have many different designs. Imo this and the hotel break ground around same time.
I'm a big fan of the design. You can tell they're paying great attention to detail which is often missed in these types of projects. Will be a great addition to Water Street.
The tallest tower will be just under 318 ft the shorter one is about 225 ft just to give you an idea

yeah finally something that cracks the 300 foot mark with a high likelihood of being built!
