What do the locals think of HK's expat community especially the "*******"? Some like them and some don't but what about you? Here's an old documentary on HK's expat community

Having watched this video, some of my perspectives changed. All of them are kind of... ignorant and snobbish

There will be people who like the expats, people who don't and people who simply could care less. It's the same everywhere in the world.

The person who made this "documentary" could've easily been biased toward his own personal opinion. How many truly objective, unbiased documentaries have you seen?

I can go around the U.S. and find interview 100 people and out of them 10 are racists, then I'll just include those 10 people in my documentary and BOOM, people will assume Americans are ALL racists...

That's the power of media and how it rules over the ignorant.

that's an "old" documentary though.
The documentary may be old but it still applies to some of today's expats. Though I get along with alot of expats, I remembered an incident that happened years back. It was in Lamma Island when an drunken ****** almost got in a rampage. The wack thing is, the cops didn't do anything!

My observation:

There are indeed fewer expats in HK these days, relative to pre 97. Reasons:-
1/ The days of expats easily getting a fat pay but absolutely useless are long gone. There may still be some cases but definitely very few
2/ Many expats prefer, instead, to go to Singapore for better family life, cleaner air, etc. or Shanghai for the action

Most locals welcome the presence of expats and they love to have their company, particularly those who can speaks a bit of Cantonese. They become very popular in the office

Most locals are less in awe of expats than pre-97 as we are no longer a British colony and we have a high degree of self government. There are also more cases of expats reporting to locals, which helps. Having said that, very often people still mistake the expat subordinate to be the boss when they are not

Most expats who have lived in HK for some time know more cantonese than they led locals to think...that way, they'll hear a lot more about what people may be saying behind their back :)
