I wish I'd visited enough of the country to make a good judgment. From the little I've seen in person, I love the landscape driving towards Sululta from Addis (North) in August/September. Just beautiful.

From pictures, it's between Lake Wenchi, the forest in Arba Minch overlooking the two lakes and Harenna Forest (Bale Mountains).

Perhaps that's why the multi-billion dollar Tourist City is being built in the Abijata-Shala area...

Yes you right Dubai billionaires took land from oromia region to construct a tourist city in abjata shala national park this huge project even have its own air port . and I remember this was making headlines on the news about four years ago but I don’t know about their progress now .
lake shala have what it takes to constrict a perfect tourist city in Ethiopia if you see the potentials.
-lake shala is the fourth biggest lake in Ethiopia and deepest lake in Africa north of equator.
- it have breathtaking landscape with huge mountains, cliffs and the most beautiful blue lake in Ethiopia.
- it have perfect warm sunny weather. warm but not too hot.
-there are many hot springs around the lake to construct health spas
-abijata shala national park is renowned for its bird biodiversity.
-it is near lake langano located on Addis- Nairobi highway.
Don’t you agree with me?? this place deserves an environmental friendly tourist city and it will be a one of the tourist hot spots in Africa.

The reason for the delay might be the fact that the UAE has its share of problems with the latest financial crisis which has engulfed much of the World. I recall Dubai was bailed out by its richer cousins in UAE. Another reason for the delay might have to do with the entrenched bureaucracy which is a hurdle for a lot of investors. As much as we wish the fast track approach in Ethiopia has to be to streamline the bureaucracy and do see some progress in that direction, there still is a lot of sabotage by underpaid and overzealous apparatchiks. PS. This is strictly speculation on my part as i am not au courant on this particular venture which should be priority for the govt. The future lies in tailoring to those well heeled tourists as manufacturing is a ' rat race'. Factories are moved overnite where ever there is cheaper labor or depending on quotas allocated to countries. Operations were mobilized thousands of miles to Vietnam, Cambodia, Bangladesh etc based on local conditions and the quota system on importation of textiles.
