OK I'll be there next week for three days for my vacation. I'm not planning to go to Vegas or any other cities nearby. Any recommendation for me to spend the three days in Palm Springs/Palm Desert? I'll be driving there from LA on Mon and return to LA on Wed. Thx in advance.

I really like the Palm Springs area. You have the usual golf and pool scene, but downtown Palm Springs, while small, is quite trendy (read: expensive) with good restaurants and shopping. Other communities in the area are somewhat more posh. Pretty laid-back overall. Get ready for 100+ degrees this time of year. But it's a DRY heat!!!

If you go to the ultimate LA tour thread, which does take a long time to load, towards the end, there are some pictures of Palm springs area attractions. Check out the Desert Museum, the indian springs, the casinos, the Salton sea, the Indio date festival if its on, the Palm Springs Follies, the air Museum, and Joshua Tree National Park.

Yes, plenty of touristy things to do, indeed. I prefer to walk up and down the the main drag and see the real Palm Springs. A nice mix of high-brow wealthy, mixed very comfortably with middle-income tourists who are sightseeing and may spend a little money in some of the shops and eateries. It's a nice mix you don't see in many other high-end Southern California communties. Not sure about the spring break problem-makers anymore, my last report was that the PSPD has cracked down pretty heavily on this. Still a very comfortable small city that is a nice escape from L.A., and is relatively affordable. The real wealth starts as you move down the valley.
