I was in Amsterdam last week, and noticed that it gets dark there much later than it does in Chicago. So....my question. What's the latest time that it gets dark in your city?

Chicago: 20:30

Just across the lake from Chicago: 21:26

Iowa City (my hometown) 20:45

Amsterdam: 22:07

Stockholm (I'm Swedish originally): 22:09

New York: 20:31

Los Angeles: 20:08

About 20:28 here.

I think Sunset comes too early, but then again...during the summer, dawn starts almost at 5:00 AM.

When I visited Toronto, and later Columbus, Ohio, I noticed that it doesn't get dark until 21:00.
Around 7pm in Hong Kong - we're too far south to experience wide swings in sunset times.

Not only does the northern latitude result in longer daylight hours in summer, but Chicago being right on the eastern edge of its timezone also means it gets darker earlier (say, compared to Michigan just across the lake, which gets dark at almost the exact same time but is an hour ahead).
^ bingo.

I'm a night person, I'm jealous of the eastern side of the lake...

Okay, that perfectly explains everything.

That is probably the case for here as well...We aren't too far from the Atlantic Time Zone.
In Las Vegas, the latest it gets dark is at 9:30, well at least in my part of town, where the lights aren't as bright. In the winter it gets drakest at almost 11
Sunset is officially latest at around 9.30 in London although its not fully dark until well past 10 at the height of summer. Check out the link below. Its a great website that allows you to enter any city around the world and see sunrise and sunset times.

Copenhagen today:

Sunrise: 5:11

Sunset: 21:01

Darkness... hmm... around 21:45 I'll guess.. living in the city makes it a bit hard to tell as it's never really dark here...
In Birmingham (and Huntsville for that matter), I've never seen the sun stay out past 8 or maybe 8:15 at the very latest.

It tripped me out to visit Omaha, NE about five or six years ago and see the sun stay out until 10 PM. That's so cool..........
Sunset is around 8:30, I think, but there's light into about 9 pm
Um... in late June, it never goes totally dark.
The same goes for Finland.
Sunset for Hobart in summer is a bit before 9pm, but the light normal lasts around for a good half an hour after this. I love the fact that we get so much daylight time after work :)
Um... in late June, it never goes totally dark.
The tradeoff for that though (applys to all Northern locales) is that winter nights are long, though.

Here in the winter's peak, sunset usually is at 4:30, with total darkness by 5:00.
Here it doesn't get totally dark until about about 2215 in summer but official sunset is about 30 mins earlier.

In mid-December it gets dark at 1630
In London sunset is at 21:30 on the longest day, but it's not totally dark until 22:30.
The sun sets at 22:45 here at the end of June. But it doesn't really get dark though. Even when it is as darkest around 1am-1:30am, it is not completely dark. What a nice time we'll have ahead!:) December is equally depressing, when the sun sets around 15:10, especially in these climate-change times, when there are no snow to lighten things up abit:(
In London at the height of summer hrs it gets light at 4am and sets at 10:30pm. The sky is still blue at 11 pm.
im always drunk if it gets dark, i cant say.... :drunk:
