Why no tram system on Kowloon side

The HK tram offers a fantastic service for short short journeys in dense urban environments. It also offer the cleanest urban transport.

Would a scheme work on Kowloonside to help rejuvenate the areas to the west of Nathan road? This would need to be combined with significant tram / pedestrian priority schemes to make the areas more people friendly.

The above link shows a potential 3Km route (try to ignore the zig-zagging as google maps struggles to offer direct walking routes).

Given vehicular access to all areas at all times is the most important rule for the current administration it could not happen yet.

Maybe the MTR was more successful and is as clean as trams.

Interesting route however. I have thought about the possibility of dedicated cycle routes on this route.
it would be interesting to compare tram and MTR CO2/pax km but the MTR refuses to publish the data...

currently

- MTR
- Busses
- Minibuses
- Taxi's
- Private hire buses/vehicles
- cycling
- walking

all compete on this route. On super high density routes the more options the better so why not add the tram. A dedicated cycle / tram route sounds a very good idea.

It would make sense to have such system these days.

But I think it's about the history of Kowloon development, and why no tram was built on the Peninsular versus on the Hong Kong side.

Similar systems are being discussed to implement in the WKCD and Kai Tak linking the older district with the new district; but Nathan Road system would yet to come.

Didn't we talk about this already in the other posts?

I think I figured out why Longershanks keep posting over and over the same stuff - he's got a goldfish's memory!
