Sorry Hack404 - No Malta

Jarbury - I think so but they are making a real fist of it this time in line with the centenary of league celebrations. There mistake seemed to be including too many lower ranking nations that were just never really stood a chance. Then again the same problem happens in cricket and rugby union were a handful of nations are really only a true chance of winning. So this tournament seems heavily biased towards the Aussies, Kiwis and Pomes but thats just being realistic I guess.

The news is that the ESL will be expanding to 14 teams in 2009, with Toulouse coming in as a possible second French team, and maybe a team from Wales.

You have to wonder why they bother.

I'm a League fan, but a World Cup of Australia, GB and NZ is a bit of a joke.
I think the World cup is a great opportunity for the developing league nations to gain exposure to the highest level of the game as played by those core countries you listed, I would also include France in that list.
No one pretends that this is a union or a football world cup, but it is important for the international development of the game.

My sentiments as well. It won't rival soccer as a true world cup but it will hopefully give the game some exposure to show it is a much more entertaining game than union. No-one knocks netball's world cup and it has only a couple of countries that are a true chance of winning it. It also gives Australia a chance to hold another world crown to go with the many others we have.

Having a French team in the English league seems odd when you have a perfectly good league already in France.

This is a joke, GB splitting means there is only 2 nations that are going to have a chance of winning, Aus and NZ.

if league gets even 1/10th of the attendance that the RWC had then i will be suprised.

Just fyi, the 2007 RWC had 2,263,223 pass through the gates.

Not really GB is England anyway, there have only ever been a handful of GB players who were not English. I don't think the present GB squad has a single non English player.
