LOL at the bloke saying it is marginally better than the aussie rules world cup. To that I say WHAT F#CKING WORLD CUP and will it get 50000 people to the final?
That's what everyone outside NSW and Qld will be asking themselves afterwards.

Rugby league is the sick man of Aussie sport. It has nowhere to go. Only the backing of Nine and Murdoch is keeping it from death's door.

In England, it is a cult sport. In France, dead. Where else do they even play it? In 'Lebanon' AKA as Punchbowl Western Sydney. 3rd generation Lebanese.

Why bother with it anyway, it is just a chopped down version of rugby anyway? What is the point of the scrums and only 6 tackles then you hand it over. Idiotic.

The sooner RL adopts union laws the better it will be for its own survival.

The world cup of league will be like the world cup of marbles recently staged in a Safeway car park somewhere in England. About 30 odd people will take a peak while they are doing their grocery shopping.

Mind you, the 'intellectual' midgets that you see attending matches says a lot about how it still survives.

Thank the good lord I don't live in NSW or QLD! Any wonder suicide rates are the highest among teens in those states.

You really are wonderful as the resident Rugby League basher. It is amusing when you try to pass yourself off as some sort of impartial expert, but it is a paper thin disguise.
TOCC has been like that for as long as I've been here, you just learn to ignore him after a while.

Just be warned, if you say one negative thing about rugby union, or even post an article by a ru journo painting ru in a negative light, he'll create a thread to personally attack you. ;)

In other news I got my tickets to the two games at Suncorp earlier this week. I'm thinking about going down to the Gold Coast and even Sydney for some games but I'm still working out exactly how I'm going to work everything together.

The comments above show a complete lack of understanding of Rugby Leagues current development, its history and its rules.
The facists in occupied France hated Rugby XIII so much they had it banned, so your in good company Bob.

For a dead sport, they're paying pretty good money (relative to NRL wages).

I've noticed, plus he goes running to mods to get posts banned on union threads. In one poster, we have a microcosm of all union supporters basically.

Give me strength.

I can't find the words, smilies or anything else to describe how amazingly stupid your posts are.

Poker machine money.
Many many moons ago this was thrown at the NSWRL clubs by some pompus wowsers from their high moral ground acroos the Murray.
Sadly, It seems that most of the country now knows the bitter sweet curse of the wangers (AKA poker machines).

VICTORIAN AFL clubs gouged more than $110 million from poker machine players last financial year and are increasingly targeting Melbourne's most vulnerable communities.
Monash University research also reveals massive rorting by clubs of their community benefit obligations, with several claiming player payments and "team maintenance" expenses in return for preferential tax treatment.
Victorian clubs retained in revenue one-third of all losses, or some $36 million, from 1191 poker machines in 18 gaming venues.
More here.

Bob, if brains were made of ink, you wouldn't even have enough for a full stop.

All you do is regurgitate this dribble on every rugby league thread or when anyone mentions it.

What do you build anyway, its definately not intellectual arguments.

Typical of the rugby league set, attack the man and not the topic.

You cannot even defend the 'great' game.

Two men and their dogs give a **** about league in the countries birthplace. Why do we even bother with it?

What skill is there in just running madly at an opponent? You don't even need any ball skills to play the wretched game.

Bob does it again. :)

What insecurity and terror must cause some AFL fans to bleat on like this.

I notice in a lot of AFL adds as well, like the ridiculous history one I saw the other day, they are always trying to over emphasise the importance and the support of the code. How "Aussie" it is and how everyone loves it. Bit pathetic really.

It's a good game, I like it, not as much as league, union and soccer, but it's still good. It's just the false bravado of the fans that wears thin for me. You can like more than one sport, liking one doesn't diminish the other. And you can admit that in some parts of this great nation, League is more popular, and always will be.

typical of the rugby league set? dont kid yourself mate, happens across all codes. but lets not play he said she said, as that would take us back to the stoneage.

remember, this is a RL thread your posting to, so to post negativley geared replies is to intice criticism ....

i suspect your none too happy to see that there is enough interest - at least on this website, to generate more than one thread about RL, the second most viewed and replied to thread in the sport section.

RL doesnt need defending. your basically admitting that its ok to attack it.

People watch the sport for what it is - watching it for a reason that appeals to them, and for that basic reason. And it just happens to appeal to alot of people - though not as much as AFL, yet still significant no doubt.
i trust you can deal with that at least.

internationally, RL is more popular than aussie rules - big fucking surprise there. even if it was just "two men and a dog", its still more than AFL footy.
RL still has some international presence.

i agree that the game is less skillful than AFL, but AFL is less skillful than that game where they play volleyball using soccer skills and not their hands (looks insane). but then again, what people define as skill is subjective. It's an argument that bears no relevance these days, something that you dearly need to realize.

im not trying to bash you (well at least im trying not to), its just that you are giving your beloved sport a bad representation. i know for fact that even though there are alot of one eyed AFL supporters who dont want to know any other code (their passion for aussie rules is unrivalled), their are also some supporters who respect, appreciate, and even support other codes of football and indeed other sports in general.

so in short - dont hate. it only generates skeptisism and suspicion of insecurity from the wider aurdience. its a weak image

dont get me wrong, i dont hate aussie rules, it would be somewhat unaustralian for me to do so, even though it is not my favoured sport.
its probably my third or fourth ...

btw if managed properly, i believe football (soccer) will be giving all codes a run for their money, particularly NRL since its not as strong as the AFL. however, it doesnt necessarily mean that RL will simply vanish - its been around for 100 years now!

Over 50000 in the stands at Suncorp Stadium Brisbane last weekend for a home and away match.

Not bad for a dead sport.
Queensland is definitely the powerhouse atm crowds wise in the NRL. The poker machine comment really applies a lot more down in Sydney.

haha, so the fact that im always posting in the NRL thread and a unasahmed Broncos supporter would also support this theory?

I like the nrl the world cup on the other hand is a farce.

There are different types of skills required for every sport no matter what it is. To say league has no ball skills is ridiculous, look at the accurate passes thrown under pressure and the pin-point kicks needed for bombs, grubbers etc and this is with pressure on the kickers, AFL players are missing basic set shots for goal frequently and I'm not bashing AFL as I enjoy watching the game live.

Look at the different sportsmen that have given league a go like Darren Clarke, Jeff Fenech, gridiron players, etc and not one has been successful because they do not have the asscociated skills required for rugby league which comes through years of aquiring them.
