Just woken up to read about the giant fire at the chemical works on Albion Way, Armley. Sounds massive, anyone got any pics from their area?

This is a photo from ITV:

I've seen the hashtag #Amrleygeddon on Twitter this morning. Made me chuckle and immediately felt bad!

In Osmondthorpe. What a surprise.

Don't tar everyone with the same brush mate, what you said in the other thread was a lot more fitting.

Its here with my reply.

It was only a matter of time.

Maybe now people will sit up and take notice of the horrendous problems in east Leeds.

Yup, this. As someone who lives in East Leeds, people need to look up and realise that sections of the community in this area are severely under privileged and although this is no reason for something like this to happen, I am confident to say that (in my opinion) that something like this would not have happened had Corpus not being an inner city school in an under privileged area. More needs to be done for East Leeds.

I think judging by what I've read so far this kid had mental problems, nowt to do with the area. This would have happened in any area/school that that kid attended.
Incidents like this are exceedingly rare by all accounts. Hardly symptomatic of wider societal issues.

So high schools in Leeds achieve at the national average and kids in east Leeds are well brought by their parents? An incident of this kind is rare, but if it was going to happen anywhere...
This could have happened anywhere.

A high-achieving middle-class schoolboy was in custody on Monday night after a teacher was stabbed to death in the first murder of its kind in a British classroom.

I'm not saying that the area that that school is situated in doesn't need some attention and investment, it does, but that has nothing to do with this murder. Two separate issues.

If he is indeed 'middle class' then the kid in question will be from a relatively posh part of Leeds and travel to school. The school has always had a good rep'.

Edit:
Just checked the kid is from Halton, a relatively posh part of Leeds.

Either way its a tragedy. But think I'm with di Livio on this one.

So you are blaming the area when he's not even from there?

Are you a fucking moron?

As I've said in the media thread, what has happened is the act of an evil and no doubt mentally sick individual, nothing to do with where it is or which school it is in. There are many many much worse schools up and down the country, but this is a unique and one-off tragic incident that has struck randomly.

@max-da-beast

I'm sorry for losing it a bit.

I just got a bit angry that you were supporting DL after it had been reported where this kid was from and reported that he was a loner suffering his parents breaking up. This all flew in the face of what DL was saying yet you still agreed with him.

Anyway not the place.

RIP Ann Maguire.

It's cool.

Na I give it that I hadn't read the loner stuff and didn't realise the parents had broken up. I still think East Leeds could have more done for it.

But seems more and more like it's isolated.

RIP
