Rescuers spot wreckage of plane that crashed with 154 aboard
(CNN) -- Rescuers on Tuesday spotted the wreckage of a Yemeni plane that crashed in the Indian Ocean off the island nation of Comoros, Comoros Vice President Idi Nadhoim said.

An Airbus 310 like the one pictured has crashed while on the way to the capital of Comoros.

The jet, carrying more than 150 people, was en route to Moroni, the capital of Comoros, from Yemen's capital of Sanaa.

A reconnaissance plane spotted traces of the jet in waters off the town of Mitsamiouli, Nadhoim said.

"There were no sign of survivors," he said. "There are a few bodies floating and there is a lot debris floating around."

Officials from the national airline Yemenia told CNN that the jet crashed about an hour before landing. But the Comoros government said the plane crashed during its approach to the airport in Hahaya.

There were 147 passengers and 11 crew members aboard, Nadhoim said.

Yemenia Flight 626 left Sanaa at 9:30 p.m. (2:30 p.m. ET) for what was expected to be a four-and-a-half-hour flight. The airline has three regular flights a week to Moroni, off the east coast of Africa, about 2,900 km (1,800 miles) south of Yemen.

Most of the passengers aboard the Airbus A310 were Comoran, an official at Sanaa's international airport told CNN.

There was no indication of foul play behind the crash, the official said.

The crash was the second involving an Airbus jet in a month. On June 1, an Air France Airbus A330 crashed off Brazil while en route from Rio de Janeiro to Paris, France. All 228 aboard are presumed dead. The cause remains under investigation.

(CNN) -- Rescuers were searching the wreckage of a downed Yemeni jet Tuesday after the "miracle" discovery of a young child in the Indian Ocean.

The child is the only known survivor from the downed Yemenia Airways flight, which was carrying 153 people en route to the island nation of Comoros from Yemen's capital, Sanaa.

The child was found in the waters and taken to a hospital, said Captain Abdulkhalek al-Kadi, chairman of Yemenia Airways.

"One child is alive and we hope to find more," the chairman said.

At first, Comoros officials said there were no signs of survivors among the dead bodies floating in the choppy waters. But then rescuers found the young child. Recent plane crashes »

"It is a miracle. I am glad the toddler is safe," Jon Cox, an aviation expert told CNN. "I am just sad about everybody else."

Cox said it reminded him of a plane crash out of Detroit, Michigan in 1980s where only a 4-year-old girl survived.

^^ Not many, this is the 2nd Airbus major accident this year!
In 2008, Boeing recorded (5) major accidents, while Airbus had only (2)!

It's just the 2 Airbus accidents happened within one month, which is an unfortunate coincidence.

Second child may have survived Yemen Airways crash
July 1, 2009

A second child may have survived the Yemen Airways jet crash that took place early Tuesday morning. The plane had 142 passengers and 11 crew onboard and crashed several nautical miles off the Comoros islands.

A hospital on the main island in the Indian Ocean archipelago was put on alert on Wednesday to treat the victim, doctors reported.

"It seems that another child was found alive early in the morning. We have no details on the victim, because we have not seen him," said one of the doctors, adding that the survivor may still be with rescuers at sea.

A first child survivor was found on Tuesday following the crash.

The girl as her father told the media can not swim, yet she held for dear life on some floating plane debris for 12 hours!! until some fishermen from Comoros rescued her. It is a miracle indeed! Sadly, her mother along with most people on the plane died.
