ZAGREB - construction update

Thanks to my friend Alberto, and with a bit of research, there are now a number of towers on the rise in central Zagreb Croatia, focused on the 2 main streets of Savska & Vukovarska.

Currently next door to the existing 22 storey Cibona tower, work is nearing completion of Stage 1 of the HOTO Business Tower which will house Croatia Telecom. Work has reached level nine, but the original height of the tower which was to be at 21 storeys, may be scaled back to 15 stories due to a stuff up in the number of underground car spaces. After many years, Cibona Tower will have a new neighbour .....

HOTO Business Tower - 32 Savska, Zagreb

Work was approved last month for the construction nearby of 2 commercial towers on Vukovarska Ulica. One tower will be 12 storeys, while the second will be double its size at 25 stories.

However, the best is yet to come. Zagreb may in fact allow for Europes tallest tower at 376 metres & at a whopper 104 stories under proposal to be built. Although I am sceptical of such a huge building rising above the old Hapsburg quarter of Zagreb.

Here is the link to the story courtesy of ALBERTO, the article unfortuanetly is in Croatian .....

The rise in building permits recently for such towers has caused a crisis in Zagreb City Council which is rushing to finalise a master plan for the CBD. Zagreb City Council up until last month was anti-highrise, but has given into demand by local developers and foreign investors.

Old neighbour Cibona Tower (22 storeys) .......

I don't know how should it look like. It will be built in Žitnjak suburb, which is Zagreb industrial zone.

New hand-ball arena to be built in Špansko, western suburb. I think that construction should start next year, but I am not sure how much does it cost.

This is winning project:

More Zagreb Urban Renewal

An inner city area long neglect but now being redeveloped will shortly be transformed into a new residential neighbourhood including new office buildings.

The district known as Zvrtnica is already going thru a transformation with a number of building conversions into offices such as the "Zavrtnica Business Park"

The new approved plan will see "Ulicu Crvenoga križa" (Red Cross Street) consist of residential buildings and some office developments.

Branimirova Street will be transformed into a busy commercial street that will have many office buildings, retail, hotels and entertainment venues.

Other nearby streets will have public parks, sporting venues and more commercial space.

This area is next to Heinzelova Street which is fast being transformed into Zagrebs modern central business district.

Tkalčićeva street in Zagreb center finaly reconstructed. This pedestrian street is famous because of hundreds of caffe bars in little 19. century houses. Street was very shabby, but City Council invested 32 million kunas (4,5 mil euros) for thorough reconstruction. Street has new granit pavement, new ilmination and modern instalation (electric cables, canalization, water-supply etc).

I am sorry, I don't have any picture, but I am sure I will have couple of them very soon

That Microsoft building looks cool! Are there other office buildings next to it?
Sopot is mostly residential district, like most of New Zagreb, but there are some new office buildings, like Volvo (constructed next to Microsoft, but I can't find picture) and Ministery of finances, built 4 years ago:

Residential buildings in neighborhood:

I just find information about construction of new bridge in Zagreb. Jankomirski bridge shoud be constructed next year in western entry into Zagreb. I can't find 3D of bridge, but according to investement cost (30 million kunas), it will not be spectacular.

Location of new bridge will be close to the one old bridge which is not enough wide to accept more and more cars:

Any new information on the 100 story building proposed for Zagreb? They should have the final design soon if they want to finish it by 2008!

I don't know, I have a really strong urge that it's not going to get built. Yet, who really knows? I am just predicting the future! :crazy2:
I think that project was quietly refused by urban planners, because publicity just didn't support such a monster.
Many old buildings in Zagreb are being reconstructed into modern office buildings, like this one on crossroad Heinzelova/Benjavčićeva. The building is currently being completely refurbished and transferred into modern office space with all amenities (central heating and cooling, elevator, access for disabled persons, security, fire and burglary alarm and a garage with 110 parking spaces).
Total office space: 5000 m2.

Long Foot, I've never been to the part of Zagreb known as "Tresnjevka" and I always come across a number of projects in this area. From what I gather its a very nice residential district with a number of office buildings. Cibona Tower is located close to this area isnt it? Im also curious about this old residential tower built in the 1920s known as "Tresnjevacka Ljepotica", supposed to have been the tallest residential tower built at the time in Zagreb and almost as high as Ljubljana's "Neboticnik".

Do you have any information on this district and the tower above?
