ZAGREB - construction update

Thanks to my friend Alberto, and with a bit of research, there are now a number of towers on the rise in central Zagreb Croatia, focused on the 2 main streets of Savska & Vukovarska.

Currently next door to the existing 22 storey Cibona tower, work is nearing completion of Stage 1 of the HOTO Business Tower which will house Croatia Telecom. Work has reached level nine, but the original height of the tower which was to be at 21 storeys, may be scaled back to 15 stories due to a stuff up in the number of underground car spaces. After many years, Cibona Tower will have a new neighbour .....

HOTO Business Tower - 32 Savska, Zagreb

Work was approved last month for the construction nearby of 2 commercial towers on Vukovarska Ulica. One tower will be 12 storeys, while the second will be double its size at 25 stories.

However, the best is yet to come. Zagreb may in fact allow for Europes tallest tower at 376 metres & at a whopper 104 stories under proposal to be built. Although I am sceptical of such a huge building rising above the old Hapsburg quarter of Zagreb.

Here is the link to the story courtesy of ALBERTO, the article unfortuanetly is in Croatian .....

The rise in building permits recently for such towers has caused a crisis in Zagreb City Council which is rushing to finalise a master plan for the CBD. Zagreb City Council up until last month was anti-highrise, but has given into demand by local developers and foreign investors.

Old neighbour Cibona Tower (22 storeys) .......

Here we go some more renders of Erste Bank Tower.

I like this pic the best. It shows a pananrama of the Zagreb skyline and the impact this tower will make western section of the CBD

In this pic you can see HOTO Business Tower rising in the background.

This picture allows also for the scale of the building when you compare it to those cute little Zagreb Trams running on street level .....

Second runner-ups render. (I personally like the winners design)

Thanks for your efforts SinCity! :)

Pretty good pics. I agree, I like the first one too with the rest of the western skyline of Zagreb.

Its a pity that it wasn't 30 levels, but anyway there are a number of mid-rise buildings coming up in Zagreb this year.

What are the chances of those new "twins" going back to original height of 138m (approx 35 levels).

I read somewhere that these 2 towers have a good chance of a height increase and that their designs weren't completely final yet?

I'm not too sure on those "twins", I thinks its more a case of a large tower followed by a "mini me".

I know that the final design, height etc is not final, but there is a good chance that they could both end up higher.

Such a pity though when the original design several years ago was for a pair of 138m high towers. We'll see what eventuates ........

I like the look of this tower. It will definately add bulk to this growing commercial area of Zagreb. When I was passing through there a few weeks back, you could see a number of cranes. I also noticed a tall office building being built. I'm not too sure which one it was. I think it is the one you call "HOTO Office Tower".

........... FUZINE (Ljubljana) :)

This is all very amazing. I can see my neighbours the Croats are finally pulling out of their economic slump. Looks like Slovenia had better watch out as Croatia had the second best living standards in the former Jugoslavia up against Slovenia.

That is so far 6 big office towers coming up in Zagreb for 2004. Even interesting is the planned tallest skyscraper in Europe.

Bloody Croats! :bleep: ;) I'm very jealous!

Here are some more renders of ZagrebTower ......

ATP Zagreb, newest outpost of the ATP Group has every reason to feel proud. The office – only founded in 2002 – already has 17 employees and, now, a major contract.

"We have been retained to design the Porr tower in Zagreb", explained ATP-Zagreb Director Otto Baric in a conversation with the Austria Press Agency. The new office tower in Vukovarska is one of the Croatian Capital’s most prestigious projects.

Thanks to its position on the edge of an important shopping district, the Porr tower will play a significant urban role in the development of the city. The complex will consist of two separate buildings – the twenty story elliptical tower and a seven storey rectangular base, and will incorporate a 380-place basement car park.

No problemo! I'm hoping to have some news soon on a couple of projects for SLO! :)

WOW! Another one. I must have missed this one by accident.

I love the curves of this one. Indeed SinCity, great work.

I can see the Serbs getting jealous. All Belgrade has is the odd pissy building they have under construction. Most of them are not even proper towers. They are only a couple of levels high.

Even Sarajevo is doing very well, the Bosmal Twins are the former Jugoslavia's tallest towers ever.

Hey Croats, want to give me a couple of these beauties for Ljubljana???????????? ;)

Just to keep my Zagreb updates in the one spot, so here we go again, yet another new office building to rise in central Zagreb for 2004.

The 9 level building will be the new Zagreb office for prominent Croatian IT&T company "Combis". Combis is based in Dubrovnik on the coast but services many other Croatian cities, especially Zagreb.

The building is being designed by the popular Zagreb architectural firm of "A+Plan".

The building will add to a growing construction boom for the Croatian capital city. The building is due for completion in 2005.

Links are below. Let me know what you guys think of the design. I like it and it seems to be typical in style to many new Zagreb buildings .......

Plans have been released for another new Zagreb project ..... the ZAGREB CONGRESS CENTRE. This is a new 4000 seat venue which is to be built adjacent to the multi storey HOTEL OPERA. A design competion is soon to begin. This is the article from yesterdays Zagreb daily "Vecernji List". The article is in Croatian .....

Kongresni centar uz Operu
SDP NAJAVIO NOVI GRADSKI PROJEKT
- Gradnja æe poèeti kada kada prijedlog proðe Poglavarstvo i Skupštinu.
