Zaria is a major city in Kaduna State in Northern Nigeria initially known as Zazzau, was also the capital of the Hausa kingdom of Zazzau. The old part of the city was originally surrounded by walls, although these have now largely collapsed. The city is considered by some to be a main center of Hausa agriculture. Zaria is north of the rail junction at Kaduna, it has equal access to the seaports at Lagos and Port Harcourt by Rail. The City is home to Ahmadu Bello University, the largest university in Nigeria and the second largest in the African continent. The institution is very prominent in the fields of Agriculture, Science, Finance, Medicine and Law

One of Nigeria's great historical, pre-colonial cities. It's a shame that this and other such cities, such as Benin City, have been allowed to be stripped of their ancient historical architectural structures, such as their wall and moats. Those things could of plaid immense parts in attracting tourism to Nigeria. :eek:hno:

Most of the walls were destroyed by the British. The ones that were still solid stiill remain, in Kano for example.
