I wouldn't say the best city on the Balkans, but definitively a very nice city. I am suprised to see that Belgrade was actually able to preserve alot of its historical buildings. Were they reconstructed after the bombings or was the city simply not damaged as much?
Actually a lot of buildings were destroyed in WW2 bombardments ( 1941 by Nazis and 1945 by the Allies).
As I know, there were no serious reconstruction after , actually the opposite, nice prewar buildings that were just damaged were stripped of all their ornaments during their repair, it was cheaper and more in the communist way..
just one example:

Because, in Sofia for instance a huge part of the downtown area that was damaged during WW2 was completely destoyed and this complex was built...

and many other individual buildings throughout the city were also not reconstructed by rather replaced by ugly looking communist style buildings.

I was asking about Belgrade because from the pictures I have seen most of the buildings on streets such as Kralja Milana and Knez Mihailova seems to be preserved...

is this a river, or a lake? it has great colour, and not so dirty. at least that is what it seams.
It’s a lake. They have invested a lot to make it look good.
