The 2019 Asian Games (also known as the XVIII Asiad) is the largest sporting event in Asia and is governed by Olympic Council of Asia. The selection process is yet to begin, however several countries already announced their interest in bidding this Games.
Hanoi, Vietnam
Afterbowed out in favour of Incheon for the 2014 Asian Games, Vietnam is set to place a bid to host the 2018 event in Hanoi. Nguyen Hong Minh, vice president of Vietnam Olympic Committee said that they have credibility in hosting the large events after the successful organisation of the 2003 Southeast Asian Games and also the APEC meeting in November 2006.
Manila, Philippines
The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) plans to bid for the 2019 Asian Games in the capital city of Manila. In a visit to Guangzhou in June 2009, Philippine Sports Commission chairman Harry Angping was impressed with the infrastructure being built and the economic benefits it would bring to the city. He said he would try to convince president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to bid for the 2018 Asian Games. The country was the host of 1954 Asian Games and has successfully hosted the Southeast Asian Games on 3 occasions - in 1981, 1991 and 2005. The country will host again in 2019.
Singapore City, Singapore
The Singapore Sports Council is considering bidding to host the 2018 Asian Games following the establishment of the Singapore Grand Prix and the city state's securing of the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics, the inaugural edition of these games. Singapore will also host the 2013 Southeast Asian Games, whilst the city is developing a world-class Sports Hub which expected to be open in 2011.
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
President of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), Sheikh Fahad Al-Sabah stated that Dubai is considering placing a bid for the 2018 edition of the games. Previously, Dubai was to bid for the 2014 event, however they withdrew because they did not see it as a priority.
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
On August 7th 2009 it is reported that Malaysia will bid to host the 2019 Asian Games.
This was announced by Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek who said his ministry would inform the Cabinet about this to get its approval for the bid.
"Malaysia has the experience to host world-class games like when we hosted the Commonwealth Games in 1998. I believe with that experience Malaysia can host the Asian Games," he told reporters here Friday.
