Eilandje ('Little Island'), part 1.

This former (industrial) docklands area in the north of the city is being transformed into a new city district. Existing buildings/warehouses are renovated and lots of new developments alongside the water. It's a mix of residential buildings, towers, schools, museums and lots of restaurants, bars, etc...

Overview. (white buildings = new developments)

It all started with the MAS. (Museum Aan de Stroom, 'Museum by the River'). It's a huge museum about the city and its place in the world. People can visit the roof terrace for free.

'Central Park' One of my favorite projects. Historically this was a small inner harbor with a few docks. The huge square was now used as a car park and is being transformed into a giant park.

Next to this park, a new MOMA (museum of modern art) is planned. It is expected to be as 'iconic' as the MAS museum. Unfortunately no final design is known yet.

This is the old (current) MOMA (M HKA). The building will get a new function.

I wonder why Antwerp never is in the most liveable cities in the world index’s the city is just perfect to live in ... keeep the thread updated please . The city deserves it
They probably only calculate the stats for top 20-50 cities in the region, or whatever and it falls out of initial selection.

In general Antwerp is often overlooked. For some reason people tend to prefer capital cities or fully medieval cities like Bruges... Antwerp falls a bit in between: we are not the biggest city in Belgium (+ miss the fame of being a capital) and we don't have this very large 'picture perfect' medieval center like Bruges or Ghent.

I'm not neutral of course (😜) but I do think Antwerp is the greatest city in Belgium because we have a bit of everything (and more): historical center, 'grand' architecture at places, lots of new modern developments and city renewal projects, beautiful shopping streets/areas, lively horeca (hotels/restaurants/cafés), relatively clean and safe, large creative/alternative scene,... and above all a maritime feeling that you can't find in any other (major) Belgian city. The water, the docks, the ships, the warehouses, the seagulls, the marinas,... it all adds to the overall feeling.

But let's go back to the updates. Just a small project for today :)

Tomorrowland HQ. The offices of the Tomorrowland festival are located behind an old (renovated) police station.
