I don't know how this'll go, probably crash and burn, but I've always been really curious as to how many cranes there actually are in Brisbane, or any other major city for that matter. The Great Sydney Crane Count got a total of 90 - do you reckon there would be more then that in Brisbane?

So post information about any cranes currently in operation in the Brisbane metro, as specific as possible. And it'd be great if you could note whether its a luffing jib one (like a Favco) or a hammerhead type, or post the make or model if you know it.

So I'll start it off:

Northbridge Tower - 2x luffers
400 George - 2x luffers
275 George - 2x luffers
Brisbane Central - 1x luffer - mapps says its a Favco 750
Petrie Terrace Police Barracks - 1x Liebherr 185HC hammerhead, 1x Comedil CTT561 flat top hammerhead

Actually Verticon have posted a list of all their cranes in operation as of May 2008 (http://www.verticon.com.au/documents/Project-ListMay2008.pdf), which is pretty convienient - makes a very good start cause they have about 27 cranes in Brisbane at the moment. Some of em:

^^Wow thanks for that muntted! And thanks BrizzyChris, I found the Iceworks crane on the Verticon list, and yeh, two massive Comedil flat tops at the Gateway Bridge. I'll keep updating the list in the second post as more info comes in. The Verticon list says there is a Favco 750 in use somewhere on the North South Bypass Tunnel - can anyone confirm? I know there is a hammerhead at the northern portal (see Aussie Bhoy pics here), but can't find any pics of a luffer.

It hink that may be it in inner nearer Brisbane area.
Crane count = 32 - not including Chermside and Paddington.
Robina is the most populated area for cranes at the moment.

They were erecting a crane at the Bowen Hills Portal area yesterday. There is also a Favco (don't know the exacts) at the Woolloongabba ventilation stack site.

We can't forget that there is 6 cranes I think in the South Brisbane West end area, although this will rise rapidly in the near future.


Are there not 2 cranes at the Wesley?

What the HELL is that?? :D I googled it, but only got a couple of pages in Polish or Russian or something! Flat top hammerhead I take it? (see here

Damn, that was May 2007, not May 2008 - I guess that crane is down now? Is there any active thread for NSBT? Is it a hammerhead for a luffer at the Bowen Hills portal?

Last time I was in Springfield there were a few cranes.

Also last time I drove down the coast there was one at Springwood.

Any at Upper Mt Gravatt - Garden City expansion will be starting soon.

Other areas where cranes are usually found include:
- The Airport and surrounds
- Nundah
- Redcliffe - plenty happening up there

There are heaps at Springfield.
The one at Springwood was Verticons and has come down as the job is finished.
None at Upper Mt Gravatt or Garden City as yet although there is a self errector near Garden City.
Always heaps at Redcliffe.

I gotta get out and to a visit to Springfield. Guys do you realise that not since Canberra has Austalia witnessed the birth of a new city of significant size and with highrise buildings - and here it is right in our back yards!!!

I'd better shut up or I'll start sounding like an add for Delfin or Devine.

On my drive today I saw:

Crane at Nundah - just next to Toombul station.

Maybe 5 or 6 cranes at Chermside. One on an office on Lutwyche Road just towards the city from the shopping center. Maybe 2 pairs of apartment building cranes behind the shopping center. Another apartment building behind the offices under construction?

A crane in the industrial area off Sandgate Road near Virginia. I think it was erecting a large 2 level warhouse/indstrial building. Or maybe its just an industrial site where they store cranes sometimes...

I was surprised anyway by the number at Chermside.

All the cranes were smaller ones (Hammerheads - is that the one with the level boom?), and not like the normal larger ones with the angled boom you see on CBD buildings(Luffers?). Except the one at Virginia, that was an angled boom, but probably the type that are on a truck base not a tower. But it was a lattice type boom, not one of those smaller straight steel arms on a truck like they sometimes use for houses and small commerical buildings etc.
