That is indeed very sad, those horrid 4 council houses across the street are being put first when they are themselves entirely inappropriate for a city centre location and should also be demolished.ridiculous :bash:
So dereliction is preferable to redevelopment of very similar scale and building type
They're actually comical. They remind me of the little house in the movie UP while the rest of the city is modernising around them, yet what they say goesThat is indeed very sad, those horrid 4 council houses across the street are being put first when they are themselves entirely inappropriate for a city centre location and should also be demolished.
But without the public transport systems, adequate accommodation or competitiveness of other world cities. But if we turn Dublin into "contemporary" city it will be like hundreds of other cities in Europe and it will lose its uniqueness!! Being one of few not torn down during Second World War Dublin has a great advantage over most of them. It looks like 19th century city - but with electricity, running water, internet, ATMs and taxis to enjoy modern contemporary life!
If Dublin was living off its looks it would die an early death fairly quicklyBut without the public transport systems, adequate accommodation or competitiveness of other world cities.
Dublin is not Venice; it cannot survive as a tourist museum.
Jaysus Wilderbeast - I've been trying to be sarcastic there !! :nuts:But without the public transport systems, adequate accommodation or competitiveness of other world cities.

If should be refused because of its poor design first of all. Some architects try to tie old and new too much, especially if old is not worth it at all:Madness to refuse such a modest project which the city badly needs in this area.
Yeh I don't know why they ever tried to pay homage to that pile of shite. but the proposal looks a lot better than whats there stillIf should be refused because of its poor design first of all. Some architects try to tie old and new too much, especially if old is not worth it at all:

Couldn't disagree with you more, When Apollo house, The Screen cinema, Hawkins House and Scotch House are all redeveloped I think it will add a nice modern clean look to that otherwise dire part of the city.If should be refused because of its poor design first of all. Yeah, no, why not to add 2 more floors to what is there already? Well, it seems like that's what they actually did !!Yeh I don't know why they ever tried to pay homage to that pile of shite. but the proposal looks a lot better than whats there still
And Im generally rarely an advocate for height increases at all but the height increase there is extremely approporiate and improves the storefront
My apologies...you should have used an emoticon!:nuts:Jaysus Wilderbeast - I've been trying to be sarcastic there !!
You didn't do a good job then cause most of what you said was right.Jaysus Wilderbeast - I've been trying to be sarcastic there !!
There are sooo many hotels and student accommodations either in the pipeline or proposed. They won't be needed so much more in two years or so when these are all constructed. It's more bloody offices. Hotel , residential or student accomodation is needed so much more!!!
A 40 bedroom hotel with 2 restaurants, rooftop bar along with boutique cinema opening in 2018.
Indeed - it's quite tabloid given the sort of image they like to project. That article blurb is fairly on the nose given the Irish Times' readership!
Most of those developements look great! But this still looks like what it is..a ludicrous ugly waste of spaceNWQ Hotel
