regd. bomb blasts. The present govt. sucks. Am really outraged with the way they are maintaining law and order.
They r undoubtedly suckers particularly the way the CM YSR addressed the press expressing the inability of the govt to stop such dastardly acts of the terrorists in the wake of the same being executed by cross border terrorists. With this type of Governance it is very dangerous to live in Hyderabad. Even after the Mecca Masjid blasts in May this year and despite intelligence reports of possible terrorist strike, the complacent and casual attitude of the govt is enabling and emboldening the terrorists to strike at will. This CONGRESS GOVT should be SACKED.ITS DAYS ARE NUMBERED.:eek:hno:
for those who want to continue discussion on the terrorist attack news:

and you think changing a govt would put a stop to all the terrorist attacks? you must be high, if you think that. its not just the govt, its the people who do their jobs...its our intelligence agencies that are need in repair...replacing a govt wont do anything to terrorism if our security agencies are incompetent.

oh! pls seriously all you cong poodles should stop it. just b/c your party is in power, you blame the govt officials and ppl who put their lives at stake. recently, IB was ranked as one of the top 5 intel agencies of the world. i don't think STRATFOR is dumb or crazy to give such a high rank for IB. it is the local and central govt which need to give the IB more power and authority to take in suspicious ppl who might be involved in terrorist activities and also those ppl who preach Jihad....and the last i saw, UPA was considering pardoning convicted terrorists......seriously, before blaming intel, blame the demoralising effect of GoI's actions.

NEW DELHI: Railways are contemplating to run high-speed bullet trains in the country, the Lok Sabha was informed on Thursday. The Railway Ministry will conduct pre-feasibility studies for construction of high-speed passenger corridors, equipped with the state-of-the-art signalling and train-control systems for running high-speed trains at speeds of 300 to 350 km per hour, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad said in a written reply.

The proposed trains are to run in the Northern, Western, Southern and Eastern regions of the country. Various state governments were approached by railways to find out their willingness for participating in pre-feasibility studies.

Governments of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal have agreed in principle to participate in the pre-feasibility studies...

New GE R&D hub in H’bad

May Hire 2,000 Scientists, Engineers To Work In The Facility By 2009

TECHNOLOGY giant General Electric (GE) is looking at Hyderabad for setting up its fifth research and development (R&D) centre, after New York, Shanghai, Munich and Bangalore.
According to a top state government official, the company is scouting for 25 acres of land and may hire 2,000 scientists and engineers to work in the facility by 2009.
The state government has suggested that GE could consider setting up the facility within the University of Hyderabad campus, considering that it wants to pursue high-end work in technology areas.
“The University of Hyderabad (UoH) will fit the bill as it has been declared as a ‘university with potential for excellence’ by the University Grants Commission,” said an official.
Top officials of GE (R&D) have already met with senior state government officials in Hyderabad. Analysts reckon that if GE decides to set up its R&D centre here, the synergies between UoH and GE could lead to a technology partnership that will give world-class opportunities for the university research scholars.
Early this year, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories along with the Andhra Pradesh state government and the University of Hyderabad (UoH) had set up a new institute on the campus to undertake industry-relevant research in life sciences. The Rs 50-crore project is expected to be completed by next year.
Besides, the university had also received funding of $250,000 from US-based aircraft engine manufacturer Pratt and Whitney for setting up an endowment chair for science.
Dr Seyed E Hasnain, vice-chancellor of UoH, had earlier said that the university was looking at building a research cluster modeled on the lines of the Boston cluster including MIT and Harvard in the US.
When contacted, Dr Guillermo Wille, managing director, John F Welch Technology Centre, said: “GE’s R&D centre in Bangalore is in a continuous process of growth with its teams and operations expanding. We are considering various cities as alternatives.”
GE’s R&D facility in Bangalore delivers advanced technology initiatives in medical imaging, energy generation, jet engines, advanced materials and lighting for all GE businesses. The $120-million unit, manned by about 3,000 scientists and engineers, is the first and largest integrated, multidisciplinary R&D centre outside the US. Around 50 acres of land has been allotted to the company. “Several companies have shown interest in investing in Andhra Pradesh. There was a similar kind of research partnership initiated by US-based Georgia Tech University,” said a university official.

if Hyd does get this, then it'll be a true jewel in the crown for Hyd. and even more importantly for India, b/c India will then be the only country with 2 core R&D centers for a company like GE, while it's headquarters, US, has only one!

DPL land to fund YSR dream

DPL land to fund YSR dream

Hyderabad, Aug. 29: The government is proposing to sell 800 acres of IDPL land in the city outskirts to fund the high-speed road and rail corridor between Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad. The Hyderabad-Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam Growth Corridor is estimated to cost about Rs 20,000 crores. It is scheduled to be launched on August 15, 2008. According to the project consultant, Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited, preparatory work itself will cost around Rs 250 crores. It had proposed setting up a project development fund for the preparatory work and urged the State to set apart Rs 30 crores for this. Official sources said that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy agreed to allocate this amount in a meeting convened on Tuesday to discuss the project. He issued necessary instructions to chief secretary J. Harinarayana.

Officials who attended the ‘unscheduled and urgent’ meeting were clueless on what was in store at for them. The agenda was known only after a presentation paper prepared by the consultant was circulated. It proposed that 800 acres of land belonging to IDPL be sold to fund the project. It also suggested that an assistance of Rs 5,000 crores be sought from Centre. The meeting decided to constitute an apex committee under the Chief Minister to monitor the project implementation. The project has undergone several changes since its conception. The Chief Minister’s additional secretary M. Pratap and press secretary A. Chandrasekhar Reddy initially hit up on an idea that the Chief Minister should make a ‘birthday announcement’ of the project on July 8. Accordingly, the CMO issued a press release announcing the project which, it stated, would help people reach Hyderabad International Airport from Machilipatnam within two hours.

However, within four days, the CMO changed the project to a much more ambitious Deccan Diamond Corridor encompassing Bangalore, Mumbai and Chennai. On July 30, the CMO issued another press release in which the contours once again changed. Only Bangalore and Chennai were included from outside the State. There were plans to include the project in the high level review conducted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on July 31 to seek viability gap funding. But that did not happen. “Then the project was further shrunk and restricted to the rail and road corridor within the State,” a senior official said.

It involves converting highways between Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad into six-lane roads and laying a special and dedicated rail track enabling trains to run at a speed of more than 200 km per hour. The cost of the corridor between Hyderabad and Vijayawada will be Rs 10,550 crore out of which high speed rail component will be Rs 3,000 crore and express highway Rs 4,750 crore.

thats a great idea. The HSR is gonna benefit the entire state directly or indirectly. This is the best way to utilize the IDPL land, which YSR successfully obtained from the Central Govt.

how much will the IDPL land sellout get for the state? if it's in the boom areas, then, seeing as how DLF purchased 25 acres for 450 crores, this 800 acres could fetch colossal amounts of money to fund the entire project including any inflation related readjustments and last minute add-ons to give finishing touches.

Is it so cheap to construct an high speed road cum rail corridor from Hyderabad to Vizag ?The distance between the two cities is 500Km.IDPL land does not belong to the State Govt as the company is a public sector company under the central Govt.Fantastic imagination !! just selling 800 acres of IDPL land to finance the cost of Rail cum road project up to Vizag.By the way who is going to clear the accumulated liabilities of the defunct IDPL?

New Jersey-based SMEs mull IT park

A consortium of 60 New Jersey-based technology companies have come calling to India with a proposal to set up an integrated technology park which will see initial investment of about Rs 1,200 crore.

The Small and Medium Enterprise Consortium (SMEC) now has about 60 companies as members with a combined turnover of $3 billion. It hinted that about 300 companies evinced interest in being part of the proposed project planned near Hyderabad.

Speaking to newspersons , the delegation lead by Mr Upendra J. Chivakula, Deputy Speaker of New Jersey General Assembly, along with other members of the consortium, said that the objective of such an initiative was to step up outsourcing work, network and connect with local people, create jobs, and take up social work.

Investment plan

As a part of this initiative, the consortium expects to invest about Rs 120 crore in International Institute of Information Technology, and some model schools, each with an outlay of Rs 12 crore.

The Chairman of SMEC, Mr Mahender Musuku, said that there are scores of technology companies playing a very strategic role in enterprises in the US with employee strength ranging from a couple of hundreds and upwards. All these companies either have outsourcing capability or are in the process of looking at developing such a capability.

“To address this, we have decided to come together and create a park that has integrated technology infrastructure where small and medium sized enterprises could function. Significantly, they will also get the advantage of accessing global expertise and IP protection support from the consortium,” Mr Mahender explained.

Infrastructure

The consortium was in parleys with the Andhra Pradesh Government for support infrastructure and was looking for some land. A detailed project would be submitted to the State IT department within a couple of months, he said.

The State Information Technology Minister, Mr R. Damodar Reddy, said this is a follow -up of his recent visit to the Silicon Valley and a meeting he had with chief executive officers of technology companies.

Mr Reddy said that this initiative works well with the State’s ambitious plan to create about 3-lakh technology jobs. In fact, this project alone has the capability to provide 20,000 jobs directly and about 80,000 jobs indirectly within two years.

you are absolutely correct.
IDPL land sellout could break all the known records of real estate in Hyd.
Its right on NH9, and easily accessible to NH7 by a 6 lane road. Its somewhere on the bypass road connecting the old and new Bombay Highway(s) at Balanagar, beyond Sanatnagar Industrial area. Its one of the prime industrial sites in Hyd, before Hitec City.

IDPL, Indian Drugs and Pharmacueticals Ltd., is the leading Central PSE in Hyd until mid 80s. Then due to Central Govt's indifferent attitude towards competition in pharma industry and some of the critical staff's vested interests, the goose that laid golden eggs died a sudden death.

Luckily for AP, YSR took special interest and successfully lobbied with the GoI to get the lands transfered to GoAP.

Now, GoAP owns these lands and these lands are free of any legal tangles.

So YSR successfully lobbied with the GOI and got the IDPL lands transferred in favour of GOAP##!!Is it possible to do so easily when the Public sector companies are created by a special act of the parliament and the modus operandi for dissolution of a central govt undertaking is only done with parliament approval.BTW IDPL case is with BIFR and the process of rehabilitation or liquidation is still going on.There is huge liabilities to the Banks and wage dues to its employees.Do u know that the past employees of IDPL gaining from their experience set up the many pharmaceutical companies in Hyderabad (Dr.Reddy labs,Hetero drugs, Aurobindo Pharma etc etc) thereby resulting in the demise of IDPL which had the outdated Russian technology
