I posted a while back that the bus station should go and be rebuilt further back on Liver Street or further back still if any demolition takes place. Maybe the reason it looks so temporary is that it was always meant to be temporary.

The bus station actually had some world class architect design it. The problem it looks temporary is caused by the gap between the Hilton where tram lines should be - the shelters are actually there.

Ideally, the bus station should be underground. Very expensive, I know. Madrid does them very well.

I'm really excited about this project! I don't fully believe that Liverpool 1 needs an extension however... especially one that is even further away from the retail core. I think leisure would be a great idea, a cluster of restaurants and bars with cultural and event space could work well! With a hotel/apartments above.

Even further away from the retail core. Its right next to John Lewis and the bus station this is a perfect location for more retail to be placed.

Definitely. Albert Dock is much further away, yet L1 is now considered an essential link.

Just need to join the areas up and it would be fine. I'd like to see another big flagship store of some description, and a street concept. Ironically, if L1 had done their "furniture village" idea in this location rather than on Hanover Street it might have worked.

What would we like to see replace it on The Strand? WOuld this include the surface car park?

That's got to be one of the prime sites in the city. Overlooking Albert Dock, right next to Liverpool One on The Strand, a spacious site as well.

You'd like to think it could be more than simply more apartments but given the prime location you'd think that's what would make the most money and be most attractive to a developer.

Whatever ends up here, it needs to be permeable to pedestrians. For obvious reasons the current site is not publicly accessible, but the result of that is the current site is a total roadblock to pedestrian movement. Maybe building around the edge of the site, with a public square in the middle, a bit like those at the East Village perhaps?

Also with One Park West and the Hilton on the next block one way, and The Cargo Building on the next block the other way, nothing less than 10-12 storeys should be entertained for this site.

Views of the Anglican from the Albert Dock will have to be considered.
Checking the map, and it's only really the area around the Pumphouse where anything on this site would interfere with views of the cathedral. Start moving towards the other end of Salthouse Dock and the problem quickly goes away. The Greenberg's site on the corner of Park Lane suffers more from being in the line of sight between the Albert Dock and the cathedral, and they managed to get 16 storeys passed there, so hopefully the police site should be OK for something of an appropriate scale for The Strand.

Looking at the current HQ on google earth, its absolutely huge isn't it. The car parks massive its like an entire city block. Its going to have to be a big player who takes it on, its all very exciting.
