It closed following the ownership change and subsequent transfer of assets to Prince Abdullah.

It was announced last June that Hilton will be operating the new hotel, following a refit. It was originally meant to reopen at the end of last year, but this has stalled. Rumours are that the club’s holding company (owners of the hotel), first need to stump up the capital for this work before Hilton take the lease. Unsure why this has changed within what would have been 4 months from announcement to reopening.

As a fan of the club and sitting in the South Stand, whose exit is right next to the hotel, I hope it can open soon. Not only does it look a mess at the minute with the barriers up, but it was always a handy meeting place for a pint afterwards.
& a saviour if ever you were desperate for the loo (& i don't mean a squirt)

Rumours gaining momentum that SUFC are to be sold, with the Prince open to offers (presumably linked to the takeover at Newcastle).

Seems to be a number of interested parties ranging from American billionaires to James Dyson.

Whoever they are, hopefully they’ll run the club pragmatically and also invest in the stadium and training/academy facilities.

Looking with hindsight it might have been a good idea to have done the proposed South stand when we were last in the championship as the ground was full in the premiership and the extra revenue from corperate would have been handy - Its pretty full in the Championship tbf - Hopefully that will on the new owners to do list
I do worry if Mike Ashley takes over - he sold the space behind the gallowgate end that effectively killed any expansion plans and I could see him selling space off around Bramall lane and zero investment in the stadium

The Ashley rumour is just Alan (Partridge) Biggs throwing some artistic license around, I think. The Star must be low on clicks for April, so I wouldn’t worry!

I've heard that Emperor Palpatine is in the market for a English football club with Premier League potential.

He's been a fan of English football for years, and it would absolutely definitely not be an attempt at sportswashing his recent travesties against humanity.

Sure, it might be tough at first for United fans to stomach the idea of a merciless, murderous dictator bankrolling the club given the destruction of Alderaan, civilian deaths during strikes on the Resistance, and the alleged murder of journalist/jedi master Obi Wan Kenobi by his administration, but all of that will be forgotten once he funds the arrival of Jesse Lingard for £20m in the summer.

It could be worse. It could be Mike Ashley.

Sheffield United: Henry Mauriss has £115m bid to buy Championship club accepted

American businessman Henry Mauriss has had a £115m bid to buy Sheffield United accepted by the Championship club.

Mauriss previously bid £350m to buy Newcastle United in 2020, before a Saudi Arabian-backed takeover went through the following year.
Prince Abdullah Bin Mosaad Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud owns the Blades after winning a legal case in 2019.

The club are sixth in the Championship, occupying the final play-off spot with three games remaining.

Mauriss previously entered a period of exclusivity when trying to buy Newcastle before the deal fell through.

Any deal to buy the Blades would be subject to the EFL's owners' and directors' test.

Abdullah, a Saudi prince, won a High Court battle to take control of Sheffield United after their promotion to the Premier League under Chris Wilder.

He had owned 50% of the Blades since 2013 after former shareholder Kevin McCabe searched for fresh investment in the club when they were in League One.

Sheffield United Ltd, the company run by Mr McCabe and his family, eventually made an offer to buy out the prince for £5m.

But the offer also gave the prince's company, UTB LLC, the option to buy Mr McCabe's shareholding at the same price and a counter notice was served in January 2018.

I think if we were an established team in the prem with a huge season ticket waiting list, it would be a no brainer - Attendences have been fantasic this year, but only full in league fixtures vs Fulham - so what would be the point now?? Do we want to be another Sheffield Wednesday with a ground half full most of the time and then have dellusions we are 'Massive' when we fill the ground for a one off fixture - not for me at the moment....
