Great news this! I'm very happy they're re-using the Typhoo Tea factory, it's a heritage asset after all - will be far more charismatic than a new build. After so many years of being nothing but a dump, Digbeth may finally be getting the TLC it needs!

I like to think that the BBC moving to the Mailbox was a catalyst for the success of the Mailbox itself, so hopefully, together with Curzon St Station, the tram, Loc Studios etc, it will help to kick start other schemes in the area.

The sceptic in me thinks this may actually be a cost saving exercise rather than an investment and declaration of faith in our region, I mean: does anyone still pay the licence fee?!!!

I'm urging myself to stay positive but it's not easy, the beeb have burnt a few bridges here.
I don't think so, I've been involved in previous projects which had tried to acquire this site and the price demanded was bordering on extortion. Can only imagine how much the BBC have been force to pay to acquire this

With that in mind let hope they smash it and expand after all is built. Nice media cluster building with this and merican studios. Wonder how quick it will be with them starting the redevelop this site.

Great news, but a shame it took the success of Peaky Blinders and pressure from the government for this to happen, the BBC haven’t wanted anything to do with Birmingham and the West Midlands for a long time! This is their first investment since they moved to the Mailbox and that was a massive reduction in production here, predominantly in favour of Salford and London. Hopefully this is positive not just for Birmingham but for the whole of the West Midlands.

And another canal wharf being restored. This and Glasswater Locks further up the canal will mean plenty of choice for us to hit the water. It can only be a great big positive as this place really does have the potential for bigger things. The Digbeth Branch Canal will be the best canalside location in Birmingham. Bring it on!

If you play the link in my #24 above, I'm inclined to believe that Reiss...
The back end could be saved too, but everything between needs to go, but I don't mind the façade (front and rear) being kept and the rest demolished and rebuilt, much like Belmont House.

Also, do we think this also includes the current Latifs building? The front of that would be worth saving too but not sure the Pickford St elevation would be unless they could add a lot more windows into it.

Not just for the West Midlands .... but the entire Midlands region, West & East, population nearly 12 million people.... that's 2 million more than live in Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland combined. Ignore the Midlands at your peril, BBC.
