I always thought they had their signage all wrong. The last coiuple of times we've been to Leopold Square, we've looked around to see what (if any) offers were on and what might take our fancy. Bar and Grill always seemed to have a small menu board outside, the contents of which were sometimes not clearly laid out, but what the cheeky Italian place did next door was stick a larger menu board next to the Bar and Grill board, with much bigger text highlighting any offers they had. I reckon many people never gave the smaller menu board a second glance and just went into the Italian place. For what it was worth, we had some really nice food in the Bar and Grill - took some Russian visitors in their once and they liked it. We will miss it.

Ah BALLS!!! We skipped it as our cash was low, but promised ourselves we'd go next time we were the City for a special occasion.

What would you like to see replace it?
Something similar but higher profile, maybe a city centre version of The Milestone, or a proper quality restaurant.

The unit suffers from not having outdoor access to the excellent courtyard at the heart of the development.

A blow for the city centre for sure.
^^
This, the developers ballsed it up by not having it part of the courtyard, if it had big windows opening onto an open balcony and a better entrance onto the square at ground level it would have been snapped up a lot earlier than it was, and by a much better chain/restaurant group.

Whether it's a blow for the city im not so sure, went once for food, twice for drinks, i'll not go into details about the food but it wasn't good, and the service was off the scale appalling.

What would i like to replace it........a place with a good bar with atmosphere and a restaurant side, a "Living Room" would be nice, but it aint going to happen. It'll be empty for months and months i fear as restaurant groups/bars aren't exactly queing up to come into Sheffield City Centre.

Like the Wig and Pen?

It's interesting as apparently some friends of mine had a hen do there last weekend and it was packed to the rafters. I wonder if they just got midweek badly wrong promotion wise.

Not strictly leopold square but London Club has also shut. There goes steak in the city centre. Centre just goes from terrible to unbelievably bad!
The lease had come to an end apparently and they didnt renew, the thing with that place was if you didn't know it was there you could walk straight past it, I know it did well as Tuckwoods for years but it's not the best spot for a restaurant.

Yes if you fancy a steak in the City Centre your struggling :eek:hno:

Shame but quite interesting about Bar and Grill closing.

The head chef for about the past year recently left, and he is a v.good chef.
Wonder if that's had anything to do with it, because they struggled with matching his workload for other chefs.

Could do with it opening as another place that serves Grill food amongst others.

Suppose if you want a Steak now in the centre your looking mainly at Italian's that do decent Steaks.

Sold! (from The Star)

Still, the fact that it went into receivership in the first instance is not good news. Can Sheffield really not support this type of facility bang in the centre?

Leopold Hotel Sheffield

Jobs of 70 staff have been saved with sale of Sheffield's only four star boutique hotel.
City centre The Leopold Hotel has been sold by receivers for more than £4 million.
The 89-bed Leopold Square sale was today completed by joint receivers Adrian Berry and Daniel Smith, partners of Deloitte LLP.
An international hotel management company bought the site "at a substantial premium to the £4 million guide price".
Global property advisers Colliers International and Bilfinger GVA acted jointly for vendors.
Colliers International head of UK hotels agency Julian Troup said: “This deal represents an unrivaled opportunity to own Sheffield’s only four-star boutique hotel.
"The property is ideally located in the city centre, just half a mile from the train station and in close proximity to the town hall, peace and winter gardens, which form centrepiece of the urban regeneration of Sheffield.”
Joint receiver Adrian Berry added: “There was a significant level of interest in the hotel. We are delighted to confirm completion of the sale, which protects the jobs of 70 employees.
"We wish both the purchaser and the employees well in the hotel’s next chapter.”
Built in 1800, and originally Central Technical School for Boys, the hotel was in 2007 sympathetically restored and converted into a four-star boutique hotel.
Retaining much of its original character, the landmark hotel provides 89 en-suite letting rooms, bar, restaurant and fitness suite in addition to conferencing and wedding facilities.
