The Watersports centre is starting a phased opening this month with the actual 'Watersports' part of it (ie - the unit to hire equipment and to learn different watersports) actually opening first (which is good) with the cafe's, restaurants and other units (cycle hire and 'high brand clothing store') opening later or next year.

I don't know who the 'High Brand clothing store' is, but I'm assuming Saltrock.

It may not be the best of times to be opening up but whenever i'm in Exmouth there are always lots of windsurfers out on the water doing their thing throughout the year so i think the facilities will still be well used and have enough footfall for the restaurant and shop even in these challenging times. I imagine the next phase of the waterfront development might be put on hold for the time being as those phases are very much geared towards hospitality.

And, of course, the moaners on DL have already got stuck in.

I don't think now is the time to be opening things by the sea side. Don't you think there's been enough covidiots down your way?

:- Ideal place for a watersports centre directly opposite a section of the beach where its dangerous to bathe. !!!
:- The whole place is not worth the road re-direction cost..let alone the cost to the town of closing and then temporarily re equipping the play area site.
:- Its all part of the farcical exmouth regeneration money fiddle project.

Those renders at the top of the thread of the overall masterplan are very much schematic. The next stage will undoubtably be delayed until the tourism sector recovers. No detailed applications submitted as yet as far as i'm aware.

Right okay, so were a few years of yet then at least. I know everyone has already said this but it is a shame that they needed to do this. Everyone loved the play park, the swans boats, the model railway and a the miniture railway.

Almost £18m to build a bit of road less than 900m long?

I'm assuming there's reasons why they couldn't upgrade Summer Lane instead (like the proximity to A La Ronde, and Point in View Chapel.

That's £20,000 per metre across all lanes and paths etc. including materials, labour, H&S rubbish, planning and consulting etc.

Sounds about right.

Lets not forget buying land as well.

Michael Caines has announced he's sold 'Mickeys Beach Bar and Cafe' at the Sideshore complex.

I wonder if this, in part, was because Sideshore was originally meant to be just the start of the whole redevelopment of the beach front - but after that was completed everything stalled and then campaigns started up to 'save the beach front' from the developers and it all seems to have stopped now.

He's said the new owners are 'another local business operator who shares a similar passion' so it'll be interesting to see who that might be. Presumably not Rockfish, as they're already got somewhere in Exmouth.

So, they've now announced who's taking over 'Mickeys Beach Bar' - it's 'Swim' who currently have a restaurant in Lyme Regis

It does seem that it's another business which would 'fit in' with the Sideshore development pretty well. Pricing doesn't seem to be much different from 'Mickeys' either (£14 for Mac and Cheese, £15-£20 for burgers, £30 for steak

Top chef Michael Caines has announced the sale of his Exmouth seafront restaurant to the group behind ‘Swim’ in Lyme Regis. Mickeys Beach Bar and Restaurant and Café Patisserie Glacerie at the Side Shore has been shut since the chef announced his intention to sell on October 10.

They have had roadworks and lights at courtlands cross together with summer lane shut all throughout the summer on and off and "work starts here 8/1/25" signs been out for ages both here and at Hulham road glad DL finally realised this was happening..

I don't think it will to be fair, lympstone and Exmouth both Ex8 5 postcodes are already neighbours. The Dinham link road is opposite side of A376 to Lympstone, potentially any new link will give access to land but the area bordered by Hulham road, Wooton lane, A376 and Summer lane already have properties bordering them and both within on private access roads. I think the land to right of A376 towards coast was refused permission for building longs time ago, and courtlands lane is landlocked between there and coast. I think if the dual carriageway they proposed had been built from Exeter to Exmouth things would obviously be different but that idea got cancelled decades ago. I think future expansion of Exmouth will continue Northwards of Dinham way at Goodmores and Littleham in East

I wonder if they will ever look to improve the A376. It's only ever going to get busier with more housing development. There are a few bottlenecks that slow the whole road down. Would be difficult to do anything though.
